Well, Criterion issued a statement when the blus first started coming out that Blu-ray was just a technological improvement in the way they release films, not in the way they are mastered or handled. This is the reasoning behind not re-starting the numbering. So in a sense, you can finish the collection, as long as the numbering remains the same.

you could always look for some cheap used PS3 games. The cases are pretty much identical. I mean if it means that much to you. I think it's nice to show the improvements made in the collection over time. (DVD to Blu-ray, cardboard to plastic, etc)

I can't give Chunking Express an "A" but I wasn't disappointed by the experience of watching it.

(In other words, try renting it first.)
who are you responding to here?

I would give chungking an A but I'm not sure where this conversation started.

I didn't mean on Blu-ray. They're simply continuing the collection into Blu-ray because it's an improvment over standard DVD. So the collection as a whole (including DVD releases and Blu-ray releases) can be completed. (as long as your pockets are deep enough)

Everything that's being released on Blu is also being released on DVD, but all of the new DVD releases are not being released on Blu.

That's one thing I don't understand, why doesn't Criterion release the new releases on both DVD and BluRay? They can still release two older ones a month. This makes more sense to me but maybe that's why I don't work for Criterion.

I liked this part of their assessment

Quote:
The film transfer difference is humungous and can be best described mathematically - the Blu-ray is both more than 5X the feature file size and 5X the bitrate. The disc is chock-full with 48.5 Gig of the available 50 filled.
Despite the "Humongous" spelling mistake

The Last Metro is a pretty good film IMO and the Blu-ray looks very good.

Other than that, I don't think much else is known.

I'm sure that the more people request the clear cases, they are likely to start selling them soon.

Ordered "The Seventh Seal" today..... title #12 from the fine folks of Criterion..... (on blu that is)

Still need:

The Curious Case (everyone calls it Benjamin Buttons )
Repulsion
Last Year at Marienbad

I probably should have ordered The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons today..... since it's coming out now..... but I'm still holding hope for a sub $20 price due to the title's popularity......

I thought the seventh seal was out last night and got very excited. I want to get started on Bergman. Now I'm thinking about Clouzot. I have the money to spend but several other things I need are popping up.

I'd watch it before you buy it. I just saw The Last Metro a couple of weeks ago and while it's a good movie I don't know if it's a title I'd buy unless I had money laying around. However, loving Bottle Rocket, I plan on buying it once the price comes down a bit. I already own it on DVD, so I can't justify paying Criterion price for a replacement.

It's a really good film.... Has a wider appeal than some of the other current criterion releases..... It's a fairly safe blind buy

The Curious Case will be my first foray into Criterion world...I hope this doesn't get expensive.
