I don't remember that but I do remember a certain laundry/dishwasher powdered soap that would include a blue tinted juice glass in the box. We had a whole set of 8!

I decided recently to check my Disney Movie Rewards account and, boy, did I have a lot of points! I redeemed them for six 4K discs!

I chose:

The Avengers
Avengers Endgame
Black Panther
The Lion King (1994)
Wreck It Ralph
Incredibles 2

Grand total: $0.00, even the shipping was free! Six free 4K discs; does it get any better than that?

Oh yeah most of those you bought just 3D right? While most of us bought 4K of those we wanted.

How does improving streaming audio quality matter to stereo (aka simulated surround sound) wireless headphones?

Nice haul! Disney Movie Rewards is great. Over the years I've gotten 2 free 4k's, 3 free 3D movies and the Pirates of the Caribbean treasure chest boxed set of all 4 movies up to that point. I've also gotten several theatrical posters.

I do remember the Encyclopedia Americana promotion at our grocery store. If you bought a certain amount, you could buy a book for a dollar when they were available A-Z and later the year books. We collected the whole set, very useful for writing reports....Around 1960-63!

Theater Owners, Hollywood Guilds Applaud Passage of $1.9 Trillion COVID-19 Relief Package - Hollywood Reports 3/10/21

Quote:
SAG-AFTRA was among numerous entertainment and Hollywood guilds praising the sweeping relief package

“The American Rescue Plan provides absolutely essential economic relief for workers in the American creative community who continue to face an uncertain path back to work due to the pandemic," read a joint statement signed by SAG and other guilds. "This legislation’s extension of CARES Act and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation benefits into early September, as well as critical tax forgiveness for the first $10,200 of unemployment insurance claimed in 2020, will provide much-needed certainty for creative community workers and their families."

The Writers Guild of America, East, also praised passage of the legislation by the House. The bill means that payroll protection program funds will now be available to support employees at digital-native news organizations. COBRA premiums will also be subsidized at 100 percent for those members who lose coverage from the PWGA health fund or employer-sponsored health plans.

The relief package includes substantial increases in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, according to the WGA, East.

Local television stations are also set to benefit from the bill.

Filming in Los Angeles Begins to Rebound as More Projects Restart Production - Hollywood Reporter - 3/10/21

Quote:
Filming in Los Angeles is beginning to pick back up again.

FilmLA, the organization that tracks production in the city, says it received 777 film permit applications in February, representing a 43 percent increase compared to the month of January. The organization notes that a late-month surge in production took place, making February the third busiest month the city has experienced with regards to filming since last June. That said, production activity remains around 40 percent below normal for this time of year.

Film permit applications had declined from November through January — from a peak of 880 in October to 813 in November, 613 in December and then just 543 in January — when the virus was surging in and around Los Angeles and multiple guilds and the County Health Department recommended a temporary production pause. That steep decline in local production has begun to ease up, according to the non-profit's most recent data.

Movie Theaters Increasingly Bet on Family Films Amid Reopening - Hollywood Reporter 3/10/21

Quote:
Joe Masher, the COO of midsize exhibitor Bow Tie Cinemas, says he noticed that families from New York City — where movie theaters were closed for nearly a year, until March 5 — had been flocking to the circuit’s locations in Connecticut and New Jersey that were able to reopen in recent months amid the pandemic. “It’s amazing how many people were coming from the city,” says Masher, who is in charge of the New York chapter of the National Association of Theatre Owners.

Family movies have been the surprise box office success of the pandemic, with Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods: A New Age the strongest case-in-point. Croods 2, which debuted in those cinemas that remained open over Thanksgiving, outgrossed Warner Bros. and DC’s superhero sequel Wonder Woman 1984 in North America, grossing $53.6 million as of March 7. That compares to $44.4 million for WW84, which unfurled Dec. 25.

“Obviously, the most important thing is that we have a quality film which plays really well with kids and families,” Universal Filmed Entertainment Group vice chairman and chief distribution chief Peter Levinsohn tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I also believe that we had a smart release strategy that allowed us to take advantage of two holidays — Thanksgiving and Christmas — with no other new releases targeting kids over the past few months.”

Adds Levinsohn, "That said, we continue to believe that the theatrical and in-home experiences are quite different, and that they can coexist in the marketplace with proper windowing and business models."

It appears that I am sorta out in the desert in this thread in regards to the mentioned thread. Has anyone read that thread and if so, did you learn anything? IMHO, a thread like that is worthwhile even if you only learn one tidbit.

In other news, it’s been tough on shop owners in the pandemic and COVID-19 is not very nice!

Something that isn’t discussed as much is that physical media does have a lot of censorship examples, you probably wouldn’t think of it on the majority of content but it happens.

See Movies censorship

A lot of this has to with increasing the exposure of content by removing scenes that would make it more family friendly, but also equates to the country’s standards against specific content norms.
