Default is Blu-ray spec final- what is there to come

i am currently using a pioneer drive with power dvd in my pc.

i need to upgrade the software in order to get more features (mainly lossless audio). i am however not willing to pay 100 dollars to upgrade powerdvd.

i would rather buy a standalone blu ray player.

if i got something like a sony bdp-350, will that last me for the next 5 years or is the blu ray format still emerging codec and profile wise?

i'm willing shell out more for the bdp-550, if that has everything that will last me through the blu ray years.

I know one can firmware upgrade these models, but you can't add hardware decoding if you know what i mean.

thx
