I thought the Blu-ray was pretty stunning honestly. It should clean up even better on UHD.

These double dips are getting a little old but of course I'm in. I'm sure it won't be long before we'll be doing the same with the Friday the 13th movies as well.

5 not being released in this case honestly puzzles me. Regardless of whether they licensed from Trancas or Lionsgate (the former being much more likely, if I had to guess), it wouldn't make sense for them to only pick up two of the three titles. Especially since they have extras for it ready to go.

I could at least see why Curse, H20 and Resurrection wouldn't necessarily get releases due to it being a different licensing situation.

I'm actually surprised that Escape From New York is on the docket, since that one went OOP already (and unlike other titles that went OOP that they regained the rights to, they haven't reissued it).

I won't complain if they do a UHD, of course (although the StudioCanal disc is REALLY good)...

I didn't think about that as an option. That would be a nice add-on...

I remember a friend telling me about this exact scenario a few months ago when I mentioned possibly getting that set. Looks like he might've been onto something.

Paramount's putting out a new collection with the upgraded transfers for 1-4, but no UHD yet.

If we do ever see the Friday the 13th films on Blu-Ray, I don't expect them to come from Scream Factory. Paramount wasn't licensing out UHD rights in the first place (and now they're pretty much not worrying about licensing, so they can focus on their own home video division).

But if they do reissue any of them on UHD, I'll do the same thing with that box set as I plan on doing with this one.

  • 40 Years of Terror: Halloween III Panel Discussion (No official release, but the full panel recording is on YouTube)
  • Joe Bob Briggs’ MonsterVision - Halloween III segments (No official release, but the footage is readily available on YouTube)
  • Halloween III by Éric Peretti (from the French Blu-Ray by Le Chat Qui Fume; not exactly sure what this is as I don't own the disc)

Additionally, the GoodTimes VHS and DVD releases from 1998 also featured an alternate audio mix than has been released on subsequent releases. It's most notable during Marge's death sequence.
Monstervision segments should be an extra on every blu-ray applicable.

Fully on board for this. I still get the song from the commercials stuck in my head on a weekly basis. Last year I made a horror-movie themed house mix and there was no better song to close it out with:

Did Jones / Newman do commentaries for any other films from the Halloween series? Really want to get my hands on that UK DVD for Halloween 3.

I came across a copy of that DVD for HIII. The commentary is not bad. It's similar in tone to the pair's commentary for HII. It's irreverent and sometimes knowledgeable. They do however spend too much time scratching their heads over the decision to keep Michael Myers dead (he was last scene burning away to ashes) and go with a new story using just the Halloween title. And, like people often do, they only take the 21st century view of it and wonder why they didn't act like they know what everyone knows now, i.e. just churn out the same movie with the same character over and over and over. As if that's a clever thing to do.

They also perpetuate the idea that HIII was a disaster because of this when in fact it made the going rate for a threequel. Just under 60 percent of the previous movie. It was something of a disaster in marketing, with some people complaining that they weren't well enough prepared for there being no Myers. You know? Morons.

They also dwell too much on Challis being a somewhat louche or dysfunctional doctor. (yawn)

But all in all the chat is amiable enough.

I really believe if Halloween III was marketed as just “Season of the Witch” and didn’t have “Halloween” attached to it, it more likely would have done better at the box office. I personally love it. It was a really cool concept to do a whole anthology of films like Tommy Lee Wallace had mentioned.

Word of mouth spread about HIII quickly. I remember seeing it about week after it was released and knew that Michael Myers wasn’t in it. Granted I was 9 years old and was really disappointed that he wasn’t in it, but I still enjoyed it.
