I used them before. My last order never shipped and they didn't respond to any communications. Even the phone went to voicemail and the voicemail was full.

I searched and found an alternative.

The 4K UHD Blu-ray box is $140 now at amazon.com (US), but £249 at amazon.co.uk (UK).

How come the UK release is almost twice as expensive?

Not sure where you got that from? It's £189

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08DGR1S...v_ov_lig_dp_it

It's been £159.99 on sale too.

Sorry, my bad, it was the steelbook that was £249 on amazon.co.uk.

The standard edition is actually new from £126 (and strangely used from £264 ).

Watched S1 of GoT lately in DV and I gotta say don't get the constant references to that season being from tape since it records at 10-bit 4:4:4 at a rate of 880Mbit/s ... this result being revelatory over BD's highly compressed and 8-bit transfer is not surprising! 2K upscales from a DI pipeline is just not that far removed from 1080p.

I like the HDR grade and season 2's first couple of episodes have also been watched so far and it isn't like vastly different PQ. So much is overblown about the first season being from HDCAM SR technology.

Save that for any improvements from season to the next could be from sinking more budget season upon season ramping up production value for whatever capture, rather than the methods of workflow as a sole differential.

Does this set have auto resume? Using a Panasonic UB820 and it seems like regardless if I hit "stop" or power off, it always has to launch from scratch and get through all the warnings etc before it arrives at the main menu.

IIRC LOTR UHD set did have / offer auto resume, whereas Indiana Jones did not, so trying to figure out what's up with GoT.

I'm not a boffin, so I've never really understood that. Every dvd I've ever owned resumes play when restarted. Then blurays came along and only SOME of them had a resume feature (something to do with java menus or the like?). Almost every 4K I own has resume. What's so difficult about making it a standard feature? At least make BOOKMARKS mandatory.

Inquiring minds....etc.

No resume feature is the biggest dick move a studio can pull. Fox being the king, Warner’s right there with them.

Because of BD Java - technically there is NO resume feature on Blu-ray.

Some companies figured out a trick to program their discs to resume.

So you guys should be thankful when a disc does resume.

I watched on Blu-ray but I would just keep track in a text file what disc and episode I was on.

I send myself an email on my phone. Works fine. A text file is good too.

When I watched the UHD I kept track of what episode I was on by exercising my ability to count to 10.

But the real trick is remembering, not counting

For season 1 I would trim one fingernail per episode. Season 2 I’d trim one toenail. Season 3 I marked each fingertip with a black sharpie. Season 4, red. So on and so forth.

PRO-TIP: Put a sticky note in every season case saying "CHANGE THE AUDIO, DUMMY".

I keep forgetting, so I actually did. Well, not the DUMMY part. After the first few...

What a great set - but the idea to default to DD is just confounding. I don't even have Atmos, but it folds down into Dolby TrueHD, and I can definitely tell the difference when flipping back and forth. Problem is, I kept forgetting until half-way through an episode every time i put in a new disc (or even when I'm starting up a disc again). As some of the folks above, a resume feature also would have been nice, LOL.

In any case - after getting it a few months ago, I have finally been able to dig in this week. Wow. Especially the middle/later seasons - I mean, they almost look like they are in 3D. I'm just amazed. I'd write more, but I'm too distracted watching it. I haven't felt this way since I first saw those beautiful Lost location shots on Blu-ray for the first time.

Heh with me it’s Pavlovian. I see the HBO or Warner logo, I hit the audio button.

This is some of the best upscaling I've seen in a while though that I can recall

Hard to believe it's not native 4K

The show was mostly reference quality on standard Blu-ray, it's not much surprise really that it would shine really well with professional upscaling, HDR, etc.
