The monster represents suppressed parts; parts that the human being (or the culture) cannot tolerate. In symbolic form (or as metaphor), the horror film thus works through the return of the suppressed; it represents the struggle between the Id and the Ego.

You guys do realize that EVERYTIME JACK is talking with a GHOST he is simply in front of THE MIRROR The Bartender and Grady are HIM/SYMBOLIC images of Jacks state of mind. He is simply talking to himself, but you are missing the magic of film and symbolism. Kubrick couldn't just have Jack talking to himself in plain sight, he had to trick you with his version of a ghost story. So he surprises the film audience, give us what we want to see but not really see...see? We ALL have a monster in us we don't want to see. That is the fun of psychology

So Grady’s racism is Jack’s racism?

His suppressed racism, perhaps. He's probably not what you'd call an "active" racist, but prejudice and fear of difference is an ingrained part of the human subconscious. Basically the hotel's negative energy is worming its way into Jack's mind and exacerbating all the worst parts of his subconscious persona.

Watched the 4K recently and also watched the European cut blu ray.

One of my favourite scenes is when Jack fights with Wendy about what to do with Danny.

The 4K colours are quite cold and gloomy in that scene, I suppose someone will say this is more accurate as the most recent sign off? I preferred the warmer tone of the blu ray for that scene.

One of the many crimes of Doctor Sleep was when the classic ghosts reappeared in an orgy of unwelcome fan-service. That was bad enough, but what made it really sting was that they didn’t even include the greatest ghost of all… Blowbear.

Each to their own but I thought Doctor Sleep was fantastic. Those bits with familiar ghost was handled very well as they were haunting Danny who saw them as a child. The guy in the dog suit was seen by Wendy.

DOCTOR SLEEP was really great up until the final act in the Overlook IMO. From the point they went to the Overlook on, it felt like a bad albeit big-budget Youtube fan film to me. And Henry Thomas was flippin' terrible as Jack (Christian Slater is still around and has an on-going career and should have played that part).

The lack of "Blowbear" was also really weird, seeing as how Flanagan went out of his way to "recreate" all of the other iconic THE SHINING ghosts, and that he also shows homosexuality in so much of his other works- but then again, in those cases it's always lesbians...

That he left out one of the most iconic "ghostly" apparitions - if not THE most iconic ghostly apparition- from Kubrick's film from his big-budget fan film really feels like a slap in the face to the gay male community, to be honest. Especially since Flanagan is so eager to have lesbians all over his other works.

Lesbians are cool, but gay dudes? HELL NO.

Chris

Fun time

Try to Overlook Jack's German made Volkswagen Bug.
Try to Overlook Jack's German made Typewriter.
Try to Overlook the Nazi Colors in the Bathroom like I showed earlier.
Try to Overlook that the Indian Burial Ground is not mentioned in the Novel.
Try to Overlook America's Historical past of Nation building racism. (Indians and Black Slaves didn't have as easy access to Guns/Halloran is Unarmed Jack is Armed) They fall victim.
Try to Overlook the Calumet Indian Brand.
Try to Overlook the river of blood gushing from the Elevator from the PAST.
Try to Overlook the murdered black man who lies across a large Indian design on the floor victim of similar racist violence like the Indians.
Try to Overlook the poster that reads "The wave of terror that swept across America" which was the white man. (Killing of Indians/Enslaving of Blacks)
The July the 4th was a party and a ball for all the white people in that picture at the end of the movie now wasn't it. How about the Native Indians?

Next....
Overlook that It's about the Holocaust, and Hitler's Final Solution of 1942 is referenced also. A LOT!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Solution
42 = The total characters & spaces of = All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy = 42
42 = The bar seats are set up in a grouping of 4 and then 2.
42 = Summer of 42 on the TV set.
42 = On one of Danny's shirts.
42 = Smack in the middle of the license plate of Dick Halloran's rental car as he rushes back to Colorado.
42 = Room 237, (2x3x7) = 42.
42 = 4 Skeletons in the front and 2 in the back when Shelly see's them for the first and last times.

Bonus Point! Red Herring FUN!

43X = Danny says REDRUM! Or don't count the first time and...
42 = The Amount of times Danny REPEATS REDRUM!
You decide!

When Stanley Kubrick was asked "What is The Shining about"?

The Artists Stanley's reply.... It's about a Man that try's to Murder his Family.

Mic Drop.

It can be the caption beneath a framed print of that shot, which is easily Kubrick's masterpiece.

Idk, kind overboard 4 me. I don't take it personally and I'm sure I'm not alone.

WB probably didn't want any complaints like what they got over the beginning of IT. In one corner there's the folks who get skeeved out at anything gay on screen; in the other, the folks who get skeeved when what's gay on screen isn't the way they demand it be. So the character got the axe. This is a lose lose situation unfortunately!

Of course if I had any say whatever should be in there would be, complainers be damned. They can go watch something else.

Flanagan went out of his way to recreate EVERY OTHER iconic ghost from Kubrick's film EXCEPT for the explicitly "gay male" one.

Not overboard at all to find this suspect, sorry.

He has lesbians all over his other works, but gay guys? And the one thing he left out of his SHINING fan film was the gay guys apparition? Give me a break.

Except what's already been mentioned, which is that Danny never saw Blowbear in The Shining, only Wendy did.
