Or this other masterpiece. I mean it isn’t Evangelion, but it’s anime so it still counts…

They also considered Invader Zim an anime.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is more anime than Invader Zim.

It's actually pretty common in older TV shows since only broadcast was included in the song's license. It's less common now since the license would include streaming and physical media, but not so before those existed. In the case of Eva, the issue is with international usage.

It's less common in movies because for whatever reason, the contracts were usually worded differently to legally allow the music licenses to carry over into all media forms. It still happens though (see Return of the Living Dead, Sixteen Candles).

Copyright laws should be reformed. They're so bad.

I've been waiting years for this.
There is always money to make with Eva. Somebody will be putting it on print.

Probably until physical media as a whole dies.

I had the Collectors' Edition pre-ordered for a while, but I can't bring myself to spend an extra $140 on this when I have the ADV platinum thinpak and the old EOE/Death and Rebirth boxset from Manga.
[Show spoiler]If I wanted to, I guess I could rip the blu rays and lay in audio from the DVDs, including FMTTM, as a kind of fan edit.

As I've gotten older, I find myself liking the ADV dub less, though I know how nostalgic it is for some people. I don't have Netflix so I'm looking forward to hearing the new VSI dub.

This clip really sold me on it, I definitely prefer Mongillo to Spencer as Shinji here.

Same all of my Batman animated and DC animated series and films are mixed in on my anime shelf. But beyond the DC stuff there isn't much else American produced.

Unlikely to happen, thanks Disney. Watch them spend some money in 2023 to further extend copyright and make the laws even worse.

Hi! Easily confused dumb guy here, just found out about the Eva releases. SO...if I just want the subbed version, and don't care about any dubs, or trinkets or packaging, I'm good to go with the 5 disc Blu set that's up on Amazon right now, correct? I'm just trying to figure out why this set is only five discs and the other sets are 11. Is it because they're putting the "classic" and "modern" dubs on their own discs, thus doubling the size of the release?

Man, this takes me back. I haven't watched Eva in years, ever since I sold my Platinum DVD set back when the prices popped. What I mostly remember are those days of waiting MONTHS between releases, just to have the opportunity to go to Suncoast video and pay forty damn dollars for an hour long VHS tape. Those were the days! And when the DVD's came, I think I sold them for about 50 cents a pop. Looking at eBay now, this was yet another very dumb decision. Oh well.

Yes, the "classic" dubs and subtitles (ADV and Manga) are on their own separate discs which aren't included in the standard edition which has only the Netflix dub and subtitles. If you don't care about the old dubs, the original subtitle tracks (which many find superior to the Netflix translation), or packaging, go for the standard.

This is true for many forms of media. But it will never happen. these things now serve to benefit the companies. anti-trust laws mean nothing now

Hey everyone!
If I was going to watch the subtitled version for the first time (had always seen it in the classic ADV dub), would you watch with the netflix subs or the classic subs?

Me personally, I prefer the ADV subs because then you don't get ridiculous things like "3rd children" instead of "3rd child" and some other changes, but the Netflix subs are serviceable. Somebody posted a comparison pic of the subs a while back if you dig through the thread a bit.
