I’d suggest trying PotPlayer using MadVR as the video processor in the settings. It has probably the best HDR -> SDR conversion in a PC.

Has anyone received any shipping update from Amazon?...I pre-ordered my copies sept 18th and all it shows is order received and my card hasn't been charged yet...hoping it changes tomorrow

Got my copy from Best Buy today. Haven't watched it yet so I can't speak to the quality of the movie but I must say I like the new cover artwork and love the packaging overall, comes in a real nice slipbox. A cool surprise after expecting just a regular plain slipcover

It's pretty bad form that, on the eve of release day, Shout! has yet to issue an official statement to their customers regarding the delay. The only reason we have any inkling of what's going on is through second-hand emails that other customers have posted to social media.

Probably because you ordered 9/18.... That's a long time to wait when it comes to Amazon pre-orders (since they're typically awful).

I ordered the first three on July 18th. 1 is arriving tomorrow, 3 is set to arrive the 11th, 2 has no update yet. I ordered 4 and 5 in september and they have no shipping estimate, either.

I’ve seen hundreds of UHD discs and I think this the second worst HDR10 compression I’ve ever seen (behind only the French UHD of The Limey), and that’s based on watching it in motion with my own eyes. I found it intensely distracting and it’s so bad that it actually obscures fine detail at times, the most extreme and consistent offender being every time they show the house across the street where Michael keeps bringing his victims - the porch is a blocky, freezing mess and, as a result, looks much more poorly defined than it does on the (very good) Lionsgate UHD.

Obviously not everyone is sensitive to compression issues, and I’m sure the vast majority of people won’t notice or care about this. Remember; you either haven't seen anything from the disc at all, haven't seen it in person, or you have seen it and are being a picky nerd who is commanding what others buy without the words ever escaping your lips. The goalpost is ever moving. A prime tenant of the internet buy-product war.

There are ppl on this site that will claim they prefer VHS to bluray or UHD. And VHS produces an outstanding image.

Now put a THX label on the cover and one member will swear it's the best possible image available in any format.

There are no compression issues on this new UHD which are worthy of discussion. The grain on the old UHD looked gross and not like film.

NO. The geometry of the partially overlapping isometric grain fields without a proper duping is still distended to an excessive ratio, partly because the audio filtration in mono is interfering with the compression dynamics, causing the bytchrate to skyrocket at times.

I don't think anyone thinks that. I personally appreciate someone who has an informed opinion, even if the news isn't good.

It sounds like the HDR10 isn't as good as the Dolby Vision - and that's a shame.

I'm curious - can this be done with the previous 4k too? I'm wondering if because both ratios are so close, the circle would appear to match either way? Of course as you point out, the "O" in Hallloween may or may not have been intended to be a perfect circle.

But I do think this looks pretty spot-on which is comforting to know.

EDIT: I see you've already done that. Yup, the previous release was squished in a bit from the looks of it, assuming the "O" was actually intended to be perfectly round, which it probably was.
