Like I said a while back being a Disc Collector will get very expensive, with $15K Projectors and even JohnAV's minimum HT setup at $8K it won't be cheap. I still think Movie and TV Show watching is all Subjective and what kind of Quality you are willing to live with at what price!

![]() My post was about the price of a single out of print box set; the point was that some discs actually increase in value. Out of print prices are in no way an indicator of what it costs to collect discs. These prices are not typical everyday prices. All of this should have been obvious. |

Is there any tech purchase less gratifying than having to buy a new modem?
![]() My old Surfboard 6141 is supposedly introducing a lot of noise on upload traffic, or so claims my ISP. They state that I have the noisiest modem on my neighborhood's "card." They also say that they no longer support DOCSIS 3.0 modems. I ordered a shiny new Netgear CM 2000 and I feel annoyed about it. |

It really goes to show why Comcast is hated they cut the internet to the whole block with no warning without telling anyone it was done and then didn't come back to fix it until people called to complain one by one. |

(decades ago, the local cable co tried to blame my Laserdisc player RF passthru for causing the intermittent interference on our analog cable, I knew they would, so I disconnected everything and connected our home cable output directly to the cable box, they looked disgusted, but later called and reluctantly said it was a problem in their system) Kirk Bayne |

bought these this week:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I plan to watch The Last Duel next week. I really liked Prometheus and Alien: Covenant so I hope it doesn't disappoint. Watched Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island this week and found them both quite enjoyable. Hoping to pick up The Green Knight on a sale since it sounds like the PQ is amazing. |

This thread really should be named Physical and Streaming because there isn't a lot of non-digital media around apart from Vinyl.
That said, Why do I still feel the need to have both? I did early access to Black Widow and bought the UHD BD on release day. I did the early access mainly because my youngest is a big fan of MCU and also I try to avoid spoilers by seeing things I"m interested in ASAP. My local theaters were also closed at that time. I went to a public theater for No Time to Die because I wanted it ASAP for a variety of reasons not the least of which is movies were and are made to be seen in theaters. And, I'll pre-oder the UHD now because the price is fair already. edit- Pre-ordered it. ![]() I want it all as they say but when talking about something like entertainment there's no reason not to want it all because ultimately it's not very expensive. I value having the choice. When I buy physical I express the desire to continue to have that choice. When you buy physical you often get BOTH online and offline versions and both are useful to me. I can and do share my online movies with my entire family and that's huge. We aren't all still under the same roof and my kids in collage don't have room in a dorm for much physical media. At home I want the best possible and most reliable and physical wins in both criteria. Currently I have Silence of the Lambs on Criterion Blu Ray and iTunes 4K. I compared them both a little this AM. And, my conclusion is I need to order the UHD disc version. Edit - If I ever had to choose either physical or streaming it would be an easy choice because I like to have my own things instead of relying on someone else sharing access to their things. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 10-16-2021 at 10:41 AM. |
