That said, there are a few things I do like about them, even through I've only watched them once each (director's cuts only). As you mentioned the movies both look great on a technical level. They were both photographed on film so they'd undoutedly look great in 4K. Brad Dourif and Malcolm McDowell are both great, as they are in everything. Some of the stuff with Loomis and Michael at the asylum is interesting and I love the dinner scene in the second film where Dourif is explaning "Paint Your Wagon" to Scout Taylor-Compton and Danielle Harris. It's something I appreciate about this series; none of these films are absolutely rotten to the core. There's something to appreciate in every one of them, even the lesser ones. Even with Halloween Kills there were still a few things I liked that kept it from being a total waste. A disppoinment, but not a waste. I literally just finished watching the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake for the first time, now that is a movie that I would say is pretty rotten ![]() |

I actually quite enjoy Rob Zombie's Halloween 1 and 2 but see them as a completely separate reboot. It's an alternate take on the Myers story and for that, I respect them.
It would be like comparing Dawn of the Dead to Dawn of the Dead. You can but I'm not going to. It's not really fair. I also don't include Halloween III. It's a stand-alone movie. I love it but it's not fair to include alongside the others. I'll go: 1. Halloween (78) 2. Halloween II 3. Halloween (2018) 4. Halloween IV 5. Halloween Kills 6. Halloween V 7. Halloween 6 8. Halloween H20 9. Halloween Resurrection Combined Rankings (I don't agree with this but...) 1. Halloween (78) 2. Halloween II (81) 3. Halloween III 4. Halloween (2018) 5. Halloween 4 6. Halloween (2007) 7. Halloween II (2009) 8. Halloween Kills 9. Halloween 5 10. Halloween 6 11. Halloween H20 12. Halloween Resurrection |

Jay, if you intended to write "I STILL Enjoy 4 and H20 though, despite the horrible mask and bad score of H20" referring to yourself rather than telling me to go enjoy them, then I misread your original post and responded unfairly and excessively, for which I do apologize.

I literally just did the exact same thing last week, and have to say I totally agree. I actually like most of the controversial, much-maligned reboots and even new horror releases that Platinum Dunes puts out, despite their cynical, nihilistic, brutal approach and their typically unlikable, hollow/shallow characters. But in this instance, I was just left empty, without even straws to clutch at. The entire production was unimpressive, especially with the way-off look, sound and actions of revisionist Freddy, and the lousy special effects, to boot. It really went nowhere, for me. I guess just the word "insipid" nails it.

Still my bad though.
No matter what comes with more future sequels, I'm still very glad this entire franchise continues to capture imaginations and excite fans enough to warrant new films and, more importantly, to feed new physical releases of ALL the films, good and bad. It's scary times right now, to see a disturbing share of new horror films, and films in general, NOT getting a 4k uhd release, and much worse yet, some not even getting a USA blu ray! In all honesty, I WILL buy H Kills to support the franchise, and the 4k uhd format. I feel like it's critical, especially if we want new films in the genre on disc to enjoy and critique in the near future. Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 10-23-2021 at 06:16 PM. |

Yes I'm waiting on the Scream 4k disc too, and I'm hoping the Underworld 4k set and Mad Max 4k set don't also suffer late releases and/or shortages as well. We're just three days out on the Underworld 4k box set release. I bought one set from Amazon, and one set from Blowitoutahere, just to hedge my bets, and still neither one has shipped.....

Why wouldn't it see a Blu-ray release? It's a new movie, it's del Toro, it's going to get a theatrical release eventually...of course it will get a Blu-ray.

When Underwater released under that label last year, there was no 4k release sadly, but at least Fox HE was already announced as the distro for future physical releases, weeks in advance. Can't help but be paranoid of Disney when it comes to the dim future of physical media. Go look at the prices of all the prior Fox blu ray titles on Amazon and ebay.... |

You got me there. With that Tim Burton does have a story by, and based on the poem by him. Credits. So he did have more of a creative hand. I don't know the history of Antlers thought. So I don't know if it was one of Guillermo's endless projects he was attached to.

H5 was a rush job so of course it’s not very good. The ideas in H’18 and Kills were created over a period of years by mega Halloween fans and this is the best they could come up with. H’18 was decent and felt like an intelligently made film with a nice slow buildup, but Kills is just sloppy. It’s embarrassing how bad it is. I really wanted to like Kills, but its flaws are so glaringly apparent. With H5 I can have fun with its goofiness and over-the-top performance by Donald Pleasence. There’s nothing like that in Kills. It’s just a collection of poorly put-together ideas that don’t really amount to anything. |

While I won't say miles better, I do think Halloween Kills is better than 5. I do think it's the "Halloween 5" to Halloween 2018 though if that makes sense.
I'd much rather sit and watch Halloweens Kills again than to sit through H5 though. H5 is towards the bottom of the list for me. |

I'm only gonna rank the classic films, but after watching these new 4K discs:
Halloween Halloween II Halloween 4 Halloween 6 (Theatrical/Producer's, doesn't matter) Halloween 5 H20 Resurrection Halloween III I'd say is in the same tier as the first two films, but it's not part of the Myers storyline so I don't see the point in saying it's better than X film. Not interested in the Zombie films or the new trilogy. I may move H20 up if I ever get to see a remastered disc. |
