I will be getting the Shout Factory release because I don't already own the Lionsgate release.

I haven't seen it yet in the new version or noticed it on past versions I've watched over the years.

moviebuff75: I know what you mean by daytime lighting, but usually the extra blue one gets using daylight film when skylight is at a much higher color temperature (causing everything thing to have a slight bluish tint on daylight film) is really not enough to skew colors off that much. It does, but not in a real dramatic way.

EDIT: And to be clear, I friggin' LOVE this release. I'm not a hater of it in any way; I'm completely satisfied. But I gotta calls 'em like I sees 'em: in that one shot, that railroad sign should not have been left pea-green, no matter how "cool" you're making the daylight.
I haven't seen the shot those are talking about...but is there a lot of green foliage around that sign?

Does anyone know if the sign looks the same on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray?

Also, does the pea-green look something like this?

Like I said, I haven't seen it, but if that's the case, (in a question I just posted) it would be more like light bouncing off green foliage onto any surface (including RR signs) causing color distortion; though natural...would show up even more strongly on film. It can be color corrected but chemically that would shift all colors just to make the RR sign look correct.

Of course digital manipulation of the RR sign where it can be easily isolated and color corrected can make it look correct, but that's not how it would have looked originally in theatres back in 1978.

I'll be sure to check that out when I have some time. I've been meaning to watch my Ultra HD Blu-ray of Halloween (1978) for about a week now, but I've been too busy at night.

Loss of 3D is greater than gain of DV for me. Plus I prefer to project, so there is that.

I love the way people are back to referring to that 2007 BD master as "original color timing"

There are enough FEL DV titles out there with these HDR10 issues that DV support is essential IMO. I strongly recommend picking up a HDFury device for this purpose. I use an Arcana myself with my projector and it's so worth it to not have to accept compromises in situations like this. I feel like it's already paid for itself.

That is what I was considering for when I upgrade the projector (currently watch in HD, 4K is for the TV). Though does that box degrade or everything that is not FEL? I prefer to minimize additional processing.

Shirley you could just turn the box off if something doesn’t have a FEL layer?

My H1 blu-ray disc has a few long scratches. Can't tell if they are deep or not. However, they DO NOT affect the playback. Had absolutely zero issues watching the entire movie. This release looks and sounds very good.

Got a load of smudgy fingerprints on the UHD here.

Left side of the screen when Michael is watching Laurie sing as she walks down the street.

Thanks. I woud have never noticed it. That moment when Michael steps into the frame watching Laurie go down the street is just too chilling for me to take my eyes off center to look at the very left of the screen, just to look out for some red or green sign.

It appears before that. But, I know what you mean. Proceed with caution, Laurie.

I get what you mean but I also think it's new colour timing is vastly different and can see why people would refer to that old transfer as "original".

I'd be lying if I said I didn't like some of the colours on that old disc more.

While the disc has an almost exhaustive selection of extras, there’s a cool episode of season 3 of The Movies that Made Us on Netflix dedicated to Halloween 1978. Most diehard fans will be familiar with most of the content, but it’s still worth checking out for those interested.

The more you learn about how austere this production was, the more you admire the ingenuity of everyone involved with it.
