plus free shipping and no sales tax (at least none in NC). And they typically package things well. Amazon is now using bags to ship their goods (literally bags). Not all of the time, but frequently. And more often than not, things arrive with some sort of damage (eg cracked cases, punctured, folded or scraped cover art, smushed boxes, torn slipcovers, loose discs, broken clasps, etc). Buying direct from Kino Lorber has saved me a lot of cash.

This one’s a big upgrade and looks far better than any previous release so the answer is yes.

The bags thing with Amazon has me reconsidering where I shop next year. Everything from puzzles to movies to books and games and whatever else arrives in bags now, with a random box with no packing materials here and there just to keep thing interesting. And the value of the item means nothing to them, not that any item should be treated that way. They sent a $150 box set to me a couple months ago in one of those bags you'd ship shirts in. I was furious.

The only reason I even shop from them at this point is free shipping and ease of getting replacements, which happens frequently thanks to them shipping everything in bags. Also, the fact that so many discs arrive scratched from the factories now means I worry a lot about UHDs arriving without scratches, so at least it's an easy swap with Amazon. Apparently Shout and Arrow no longer sent out replacements unless you buy the discs from them directly. So Amazon still makes it easy to get replacements at least.

If the compression is marred by tons of greenish bits, doesn't that mean it's skewing the overall color appearance? Isn't everything a bit tinted more greenish than it should be due to the chroma issues?

If so, it's not just affecting the compression, it's affecting the color too.

It doesn't quite work to that extent. Based on what I'm seeing, the whites are where they should be most of the time. So to me the grading appears excellent, no issues that I notice.

Given the quality you get for the higher price? Nope, definitely not worth getting. The picture is marred by compression errors. Both chroma and bad film grain handling:

I’ve checked out the disc in both my PC and TV (two setups with completely different hardware) and I find it astounding some people don’t really notice these issues .

You can find links showing the compression errors here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...8#post19624628

I’d recommend waiting for someone else to license the restoration to release a different, and better, 4K disc with less (or no) compression errors. This is very likely to happen in the international market. It’s just a matter of time.
Like I posted in my quote, you're better of waiting for a different label in the international market to (hopefully) release a better 4K disc with better compression using this same restoration. If not, I think even the standard blu-ray looks better than this as the compression is more consistent with far less compression errors (and it is cheaper).

It is also worth noting Kino has had quite a few snafus' with the last three 4K discs they released:

Silence of the Lambs has the wrong colors for the first 20min, and the wrong audio mix in the 2.0 track.

This disc has chroma errors as well as bad film grain handling.

Hard Target was just released with the wrong audio mix as well, and we've yet to establish whether the picture is free of errors.

So it is not just one error which Kino has made. This is already their third problematic 4K release, and the only release which Kino has said will provide a replacement program for is Hard Target. But for SOTL and this disc? Nothing... and Kino keeps saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with SOTL 4K even though there has been various users who have confirmed the errors on that disc by comparing the colors with the rest of the film (post 20min) and comparing the colors and the audio to the standard blu-ray from Criterion:

I'm not 100% of how the algorithms for the chroma compression work in the HEVC codec (used by 4K blu-rays); but watching this disc, practically most white and gray surfaces have those chroma errors. The other colors seem fine as far as I remember. Unfortunately, almost every scene has some shot(s) with a white object or background in it (it seems the filmmakers just used whites as part of the aesthetic), so those green blobs from the chroma errors appear throughout.

I think it is just more difficult to recreate the proper color gradations in those white tones for some reason, as almost every time a 4K blu-ray has chroma errors, they usually appear on white objects (or some tone of white which basically includes grays as grays are basically whites but just at a lower luminance/less brightness).

Seriously? I thought they finally restored all the music and dialogue missing from previous releases?

What lines are missing from Spaceballs?

If you delete the comments from samlop10 it doesn't appear all that bad. That being said , he could be completely right. I have no opinion since I haven't seen it in motion. Screen shots mean nothing to me . I just would like to hear from some other people who have actually watch the disc.
