I’m in the same boat. GKids is offering replacements for disks if they don’t work. However if it still plays fine, you gotta try to replace the set. You are again rolling the dice with whether or not scratches will be present. The audio and the video for this release was fantastic but lack of quality control for the physical packaging and product is abysmal given the price point.

Just received my CE today, and I have a question about the different versions. I've always watched the show with subtitles - is there any difference between the regular and "Classic" subbed versions? Apologies if this has already been answered - this is a hard thread to keep up with!

Correct. The "Classic" discs have the old ADV dub and their older translation for the subs. The standard discs have the Netflix redub and the newer translation it's based on.

Got to episode 22 tonight. That part in episode 21 where Asuka speaks German on the telephone is adorable. I've heard some Japanese people speaking German in my life, but not often, and it definitely never sounded so cute. That really made me smile.

Anyone notice a significant drop in Picture Quality in episode 16?(episode where shinji disappears into the floating black and white angel). Up to this episode, the transfer has been 10/10. Seems strange.

that is the upscaled episode that they could not find the master negative for or whatever they used.

- The set is limited to 8,000 copies.
- Small objects are held in place by foam
- The discs are held in digistacks, like the JP BD Box.

How did you manage to get it? They cancelled it on me when I tried buying it from them.

Oh really? Damn, that sucks, sorry to hear dude :/

I did read somewhere that maybe they cancelled all orders made after the Madman orders went live, because they were from people who were trying to avoid the price increase of the Australian version. Madman made them cancel those orders.
Idk if there's any validity to this though, was just something someone said in a a youtube comment under a video talking about the release. No idea where they got that info.

I made my order as soon as they went up though, so, if that is true, it wouldn't have applied to me, so maybe that's why I got to keep mine

Oh yeah damn, that looks way better than the English Ultimate Edition, rip.
One complaint I'd have is the books having soft covers; something that big I'd want to have hardcovers, otherwise they're just flopping all over the place if you're trying to look through them, unless you place them on a table or something.

One thing I think the UE has over this is the big book it comes with, I'd want that too. Though it looks like that first book might cover similar things, I prefer the form factor of the UE one. Otherwise, the artbook this thing comes with, I'd prefer that to the individual laserdisc cover prints tbh. I'm not sure of the full contents though. I already have some Sadamoto art books and the laserdiscs, so if it's just that art, I guess I'm not missing much.

I much prefer those disc holders though

The goodies from either set I don't really care much for, but I'd probably prefer those keyrings to a paperweight and a lanyard

I watched the first 4 episodes with the ADV subs but because i was so familiar with them i felt kinda bored? I moved back to the new subtitles and, while being kind of dry and needing more localization (anytime i see "x children" a part of me wants to die), at least its a different way to experience the show.

I'm really looking forward to how it handles the later parts of the series.

Not that big of a loss though. The Collector's Edition here is way cheaper than anywhere else.
