There isn't much information about what exactly went on for archival digging, beyond that they were able to locate original VFX elements for digital recompositing and ADR that was "lost" and needed for at least one scene. Unlike the production of the first DE, this effort had the full backing and support of Paramount, so access to the archives and asset storage was completely unrestricted, whereas Robert Wise had to ask nicely and get permission for access to every bit of whatever he could get his hands on for the production team.

Those shots do still have a kind of digital cheapness to them, yeah. But it’s nae bother.

Those two seem to be outliers and other movies up to 138 minutes have been on 66 GB discs. Forrest Gump and 13 hours in Benghazi had 100gb discs and were 142 and 144 minutes respectively. So it looks like it could go either way.
As for the whole thing with the deleted scenes they definitely had the cut that they wanted in 2001 the other footage they found or we're looking for was simply stuff that they wanted to showcase as bonus features but they really couldn't find any deleted scenes that had not been part of any of the three versions. Over at the Facebook site they're indicating they found a couple of deleted scenes this time around that will be featured as extras. I think of all 13 Star Trek movies the motion picture has the least remaining unseen footage. Not counting the discarded spacewalk scene which is actually an alternate scene as opposed to a deleted scene.
Gemini Man also has the high framerate, which I assume makes a difference.

People seem to be forgetting they aren't supposed to be "perfect" - it's supposed to look like 1979 VFX technology. As good as the original '79 effects were, there are plenty of matte shots that look like the paintings they are, miniatures that look like models, and animation that looks like hand-drawn animation.

I haven't been so excited about a 4K release like this in a very long time .
Loved this movie on opening night as I got older and we got WOK I thought less of this film .
But the years have been kind to this film and now I think it's the most STAR TREK film ever made . It truly holds the heart & soul of what made the original series so great .
This new trailer has me so excited and I just can't hide it !

Curious, the German 4K upload looks better than the new Paramount one.

This trailer only goes up to 1080p for me. No 4k option.

Interesting, I thought the Paramount one looked better. The German 4k looks devoid of grain. You can see the nice film grain on the Paramount 4k.

Are those both screenshots straight from the YouTube player or downloaded or what? The file size of the first one being less than half the second one makes me think there’s more than straight screenshot-and-compare happening here, but idk you very well may have just screenshotted them and there’s just that much less there.

In this case Windows Print Screen from the Youtube pages in my browser then cropped down in Photoshop since I have two displays.

The uncropped US shot is 2.98mbs PNG and the DE one is a 3.75mbs PNG.

With 4K HDR files for SDR output I am using MPC-BE with MadVR.

The German version definitely looks better. More detail, superior grain structure. Not sure why.

I have to download them as .MKV in order to get the 4k versions. I did note the file sizes. The German version is 114 MB and the Paramount one is 91.8 MB. That explains the difference in quality, I think.
