Re: The Outer Limits (90's)

Ya, I'd buy a DVD set(s), too, but KLI has knocked this one down several times over the years so it's probably not going to happen.

At least we got uncut versions of Season 1 and those 6 compilations of other uncut episodes. I never jumped on those Canadian sets of the other "complete" seasons because they were all the syndicated cut ones. Although as the show went on, the amount of violence, nudity, and profanity dropped considerably, even uncut, the first year was the most explicit.

I'm a sucker for genre anthology shows, and I don't think the 90's TOL is that great, especially in those later seasons where they started reusing footage from earlier episodes and tried to connect said episodes, when it was clearly just a cost-saving budgetary measure; as well as Showtime dropping it and SyFy picking it up for the final 2 seasons? Drop in quality there.

But there are still some terrific episodes scattered throughout, and the remakes of some of the 60's episodes are interesting, to say the least, and add some sort of connection to the original series. I'd snatch up a complete DVD set (or separate seasons) in standard def right away. The show always looked like crap when it first aired on Showtime, so I can deal with that. No way would any boutique label put up the dough to rebuild this show from the original materials, I think everyone knows that. The video masters are as good as we can hope for these days.

Interesting that fell with Paramount. Well, I guess either Paramount or Shout could release it. Still hoping for another Paramount deal with Kino at some point.

Actually i think Season 6 (which was the last one made for Showtime) was the most explicit. Watched the uncut version of that season on Hulu a long time ago and was surprised at the amount of f-bombs in that season. Before that the show kinda avoided using strong profanity.

Interesting that no label has given this a uncut DVD release in the states like what ended up happening with the Poltergeist TV series.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is (for some reason?) getting a re-release in a few theaters by me this weekend. Might catch a showing in preparation for the Kino 4K UHD

Kino Insider,

Do you know who has the rights to “The Night the Lights went out in Georgia” Is there any chance of it getting a blu ray release?

I watched Caught in the Draft last night. It was by far one of my favorite Bob Hope films I’ve seen. I enjoy these wartime comedies. This is right up there with Buck Privates & At War with the Army. Seeing as how Eddie Bracken was in it as well as it being a Preston Sturges film it made me really long for both Hail the Conquering Hero & The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek to hit Blu-ray soon.

Anyone own the Australian DVD complete series set of the '90s Outer Limits? I do but haven't watched it yet. Can anyone tell me how censored it is?

Noticed Sandpiper Pictures are releasing At Close Range on DVD only, which leads me to suspect Kino has the BD rights. Either them, or maybe MVD since a DVD of the Fabulous Baker Boys is also coming out from Sandpiper, but I'd guess Kino.

Unless the Insider is lying, it can't be part of this deal, since there are no more former Twilight Time titles to reveal.

Ah, maybe MVD got it then. At CLose Range, and Fabulous Baker Boys are the first two DVD-only releases from Sandpiper, with the latter coming from MVD on BD, so perhaps At Close Range too.

I believe I saw somewhere that the Outer Limits collections were being re-issued in new packaging. Does anyone know what the new packaging will be?

I kinda hope the re-issues do away with the (somewhat flimsy) boxes and instead just will come in standard multi-disc cases.

(boxes, unless they are the really sturdy kind, which Arrow and Vinegar Syndrome use, are always a bit of a pain to import, because you have to be very selective with whom you order them from, as they so easily get smashed in transit).

KLI answered that a couple days back:

Everything else will be the same as before.

We had originally printed 10,000 booklets, slipcases, and digi-pak cases, reprinting them would've been too expensive, so we decide to lower the SRPs by $10 each and repackage them.

It's the same as the Canadian released version, censored and edited on video.

But, according to IMDb, the original MGM/Showtime versions are 16mm. So there's hope for a blu-ray release (at least seasons 1 - 6, season 7 which was on the Sci-Fi channel, is questionable), perhaps from Visual Entertainment Group, who released the Stargate series on blu.

Not to completely derail the Kino thread, I love their release of the original Outer Limits series on blu!

I would love the unedited 90's Outer Limits on blu-ray. I think it would be a good seller for whoever puts it out.

I received my KINO shipment today and I am excited to dig into the Noir 5 set. First up tonight will be Because of You with one of my favorite unsung actors Jeff Chandler.

I would hardly consider it noir (though it does have some loose aspects of noir), however it is a great little melodrama.
