When you're talking about Smallville, you can't even think about the future Superman because of the little things. Like how everybody is going to get their memory wiped because Superman doesn't have much of a disguise without his glasses and his arch-nemesis knows what he looks like without them.

Well, if you remember from the original Reeves version...he had no glasses until after he went to "make" the Fortess of Solitude and study the info on his crystals. There was even Jor'el saying that "13 of your Earth years will have passed". He was 18 wwhen he went...so he was 31 when he came back as Superman. Hormones can change people drastically.
