I would like a consolidated box set for all four films. UHD is a plus. Do wonder if only the Amazon "official" dubs will be included in whatever comes out in the future, or they'll include the class FUNimation ones. Part of me also want the VSI crew to get their final outing too.

If I had to bet, any future Rebuild releases will only have the "official" dub seen on Amazon Prime. It's not like the Funimation dubs of Rebuild have 25 years' worth of nostalgia from dub-watchers like ADV's dub of Eva TV did, which is probably the only reason that Khara allowed it to be included on the 11-disk SKUs of the Blu-ray set.

Personally speaking I hope that they don't include both dubs, as I'd just as soon see the 2-3 Mbps that a second English dub would use allocated to the video encode instead. If you ask me, it's bad enough (albeit economically necessary) that there's one English dub wasting valuable disc space as it is.

You have no clue how video works and it really shows. I’m usually an original language purist as well, but I eventually realised after a while that arguing about it isn’t fun, and doesn’t amount to anything besides more argument or making someone feel bad about a way they saw something you both like!

Anyways, that aside, you have a 48 mbps max rate for both video and audio, and a 40 mbps max rate for video. Depending on audio codec, bit-depth (which is largely irrelevant), dithering and padding, and a few other things, having 3 lossless surround tracks won’t eat up the bit-budget by much (lowering a max rate to 38 or 39 mbps is not bad by any means, and many discs already have their max rates lowered even if they can be at 40 to pull off some interesting tricks like the ABR style of VBR bitrate encoding, and some just have a max rate set lower anyways, even if not to do crazy tricks) if at all.

Besides, bitrate itself matters less than actual encoding settings, as was proven by the English BDs of the original series and the films outdoing their JP counterparts on a compression level, so if the Rebuilds ever do get licensed again and someone who knows what they’re doing handles them, I see no reason to be concerned.

We’ve yet to receive any confirmation GKIDS will be involved. Though it’s likely, nothing is guaranteed until it’s been announced. I wouldn’t expect a collector’s box set right off the bat either. We probably won’t see all four films released simultaneously. Crunchimation seemingly still have the rights to 3.33.

Is this option under "Parental Control" for all Sony machines? I noticed this setting on my x800m2 as well but have not encountered a disc that requires changing the code.

Pretty wack that companies are using this non-standard option to limit purchase options, however ineffective it maybe.

Yes, the option should be present on other Sony players.

Got mine, did want to argue about the 2.9 EUR fee, but seems like it's the CE disc only, I also have the regular edition

So has anybody tried to do a BD remux of the US GKIDs release with the JP BD audio in order to get the original ED songs in each episode? Like would it actually sync properly?

I believe someone in this thread attempted it and mentioned the timing was off.

The audio timing is indeed off - I did edit and mux the audios when the renewal dvd's came out in Japan before ADV did the english dvd version. I do not recall the values but they were the exact same for every TV episode, the four directors cut episodes 21-24 had their own thing going.

End of Evangelion also needed retiming, and I remember also made a script extrating and duplicating frames after editing them in photoshop since the new renewal still had some errors and scratches in the movie. Not sure if those have carried over to the bluray version, I've yet to check it out.

That was probably me. Each episode only needed a slight delay for it to sync perfectly. So the work is done!

Again, inquiring minds are welcome!

Nice! Did you went and edit the audio file, delay the audio through your player, or programed a AVS file using Avisynth?

I'm going to buy a copy now.

I manually edited each track. No quality loss in doing so!

I want to watch this show in English dub this time and I found the original English dub audio files with everything intact. Hopefully it isn't too hard to re-sync it. I'm probably going to use an AVS file for each episode and program it that way. It's just a matter of ripping the discs and remux the English dub in it.

I'll report back and see how it turned out.

Shelf inconsistency, here we come.

GKIDS sticks to that same style for all of their releases including from before Shout! Factory took over the distribution. I doubt they'll make an exception for Evangelion. Oh yeah, and the subtitles will have issues because they don't understand that white with no borders is a bad choice for readability. Months ago I had difficulty reading the subs at times in Lu Over the Wall because of the lack of good borders.
