Those heavier release schedules of yore relied heavily on major studio back catalogs, especially MGM. While many of the catalogs probably still have something that may be of interest to SF, SF has probably run headfirst into the "law of diminishing returns" with most of them, and a lot of what's left probably has any variety of issues that are potential non-starters in getting them released. If the sales data says "big titles sell, deep catalog doesn't", then that's probably the direction they'll continue to follow, because that's what pays the bills and keeps the lights on. That a company like VS can continue to mine some of these catalogs, probably says more about the VS's business model and personal interests, than it does about the actual sales potential of any individual title.

I wish for a 4K Restoration of Orca (1977) with deleted footage restored that were cut for theatrical distribution. And a 4K restoration of the original festival pre-release cut of Bug (1975), and an R-Rated Cut of Prophecy (1979).
I would love to see all three of them restored. |

September 2022 would be the ten year anniversary for their first releases, and they did a really nice sale in May of 2017 to mark their 5 year anniversary. I picked up plenty of titles for $15. I've thought the same thing about the Universal collections. Gruv has them for about $48 right now, and with the discount code and all I think it about matches Hamilton. |

They replaced a disc from a Dragnet 1968 DVD set for me late last year, but the policy change could be more recent.

Purchased Deadly Blessing off of Amazon and it came with a slip. Wild. That release is 10 years old.

I was able to get the replacement discs for a copy of Dead Ringers I bought off of Amazon, and that was a month ago.

It may be safer to purchase from AMZ. They will replace it within 30 days.... with no problems.

I would definitely be interested to hear whether they will replace discs bought elsewhere.
I am still pondering whether to order the Universal Horror Collections from Hamilton Books. Given the amount of trouble there seems to be with the mexi-cali pressing plant, there is of course a risk of receiving some scratched discs. As I have to order through a re-shipper, it becomes a huge hassle, if Scream/ Shout no longer will replace bad discs not bought from them. It would probably mean that I would have to return the whole thing to Hamilton for an exchange instead (with all the issues with customs and taxes that will include). Before, in the very few instances there have been a similar issue, I have always been able to write to Scream, include my proof of purchase, and then they have sent a replacement disc to my re-shipper's address without any problems. That way I could just include the replacement disc the next time I consolidated a package at my re-shipper. |

I was referring to Shout's replacement program. I bought the set off of Amazon and went through Shout to get the replacements. All I needed to send them was a screen capture of the Amazon order. This was about a month ago.

Is Mexicali actually replicating discs? According to Technicolor, Guadalajara is the only manufacturing plant on this side of the pond and Mexicali handles packaging and distribution.
