I can't wait for the audio of the bank heist to punish my speakers in Atmos!
That should be epic!

I love Mann as a filmmaker, I really do, but I wonder sometimes if he doesn't make these alterations just to screw with us. Maybe to see who'll notice or just to have a laugh (and I say this knowing full well how uncharacteristic it would be, but some of these alterations... like the framerate changes in Thief... Come on!)
Is that Arrow release region-free?

I got hated big time for saying this on the official announcement, but I’ll believe that Heat’s on 4K when I’m physically holding it in my hand, and I’ll believe it’s a good transfer when I watch it. Between the constant changes and the constant delays, this is starting to earn comparisons to True Lies and The Abyss. Do we even know if there’s any more changes on the 4K of Heat?

We know that this is the 2017 4k remaster, just like the director's cut bluray and the current 4k digital stream.

Not sure, but the Japanese release also has both versions on it, so is good for region 1.

No, locked to region B, since Criterion had the US rights.

I could see this receiving a BD-100 should Michael Mann insist upon it. Then again Disney, being the ever-more-thrifty joint that they are, may not be accommodating when it comes to such things. Is it known if he has final approval over the home video transfers of his films? The excessive revisionism would certainly suggest so.

I have no problem with it, the one from Aliens is also similar and I really like them a lot. I don't miss the colors of previous editions at all, which in my opinion were not correct. The same does not happen with the new transfer of T2, in this case I consider the colors of the previous blurays and DVD more accurate.

Mann just shared it on his Twitter so I think this is as "official" as it gets.

My understanding is that this is the same restoration done for the 2017 Director's Definitive Edition Blu (same one they screened at the Academy) that has different color timing but afaik no other changes. Disney's recent press release didn't say anything about a subsequent transfer but I'm assuming no one knows for certain until release date...

Could someone elucidate me as to the main differences between the WB disc (2012..?) and the 2017 Fox disc? I think I read elsewhere on here the Fox Blu has superior audio (you can actually understand it) but the video quality is worse..? I know Mann said he timed it to match how he would've shot it at that point in time, but unsure how well received that was.

Between the old blu and the remaster, I think only color grading is different. And the frame is a bit zoomed in to avoid (probably) occasional appearance of film edges present on the old blu.

Shame Mann decided to bastardize the look of the movie, even if it doesn't look bad on it's own, imo. He didn't shoot it today, he shot it in 90s and it should've stayed there.

Thanks for the heads up. Is it often that the steelbook edition sells for less than the standard 4K UHD? I don't remember seeing that before.

One of the reasons why I got my nickname, I really wanted DeNiro's character to win. I can't wait to get this one in my collection of 4Ks.

Preordered the steelbook. If this 4K turns out to be a big dud than I'll just stick my 2009 Warner disc in that steelbook.

Glad this finally has a street date. For a while it seemed like it might not happen. On that note, is this the last of the back catalog holdover 4Ks we'll be seeing from Disney? SPEED was the other Fox holdover, can't remember if there was a third. If they're theoretically gauging interest for possible future releases, they're sure picking the right titles. HEAT is going to sell like gangbusters.
