I still have the same problem with the movie. Deckard hijacking K's story. I wish neither Deckard or Rachel were in it.

I love 2049. I just think it's attracted some annoying-ass fans, especially the ones who feel the need to drag the original to big up the sequel. Ew!

No

Edit: I enjoyed 2049 and I also enjoyed AvP Requiem and own both. But 2049 will just not be the classic that some members of this forum are making it out to be. Time will tell but so far we do know Blade Runner has stood the test of time. I was interested in 2049 because of the original Blade Runner.

It is the same with Dune Part One which everyone went gaga over. While we haven't seen Part Two so far Part One didn't change the game for me over the Lynch Dune. Denis Villeneuve is a very good director. I enjoyed Dune Part One but there's many on this forum, myself included, who liked the Lynch Dune better. Denis has now made two films which already had a connection to previous films, that is why these two films continue to have people judging his work against those previous films.

I was just making an exaggerated point with AvP Requiem. Maybe I could have compared young Ridley Scott vs old Ridley Scott, Alien: Covenant isn't in the same league as Alien yet I still enjoyed it.

The sequel never appealed to me, so I never watched it. I know it got good reviews, I know it's fans are rabid... this seems to be one of several movies that a lot of people tell me "you have to see it!". Carry on, gang.

How do you know it doesn't appeal to you, if you have never watched it and it's kind of in the same tone in a way as the original that you loved?

There are MANY things I like about 2049. When I saw it in theaters I knew what I was watching was beautiful, visually interesting like the original and by the end I was only half confused and I actually thought it was anti-climatic with the final boss fight lol, at the sea-wall. Fast forward 5 years later and I love it. Or maybe Ive just watched it so many times that I've hammered it into my brain that I need to love it. What I am certain of is what I love about it outweighs the films apparent short comings. Incidentally 2049 also ignited a need for me to go back and watch the original and all the different cuts and has made me some what obsessed with both films now.

Very much the same for me! I remember being quite underwhelmed when I first saw 2049. But after repeat viewings it has significantly grown on me and now I truly love it!
But it doesn't quite have the sheer brilliance of the original imo, so BR will always be superior for me...

The entire Sulaco ship from Aliens is clearly visible in Blade Runner 2049. Same Universe…

Oh wait, you’re saying BR 2049 has some sort of outdated prequel? Do they have funny costumes and big laser blasters? I better check it out.

The thing is, Blade Runner is the better film, but certainly in 1982 it was pretty broken re: continuity problems, dodgy stunt double, cables on the Spinners... But 2049 is perfect in that respect, the level of craft is impeccable and the script pretty cast-iron. Don't get me wrong, Blade Runner is my favourite film and always will be, but even I chuckle at its dumb logic. Leon applies for a job at Tyrell using his Replicant name and no disguise? Bryant has the four files to show Deckard at his briefing, so Holden (looking for those four Reps) likely has Leon's picture etc in his briefcase. It doesn't make any sense. All of Tyrell Corp know which four Reps are on the run. So as far as internal logic is concerned, BR2049 is more solid - I'm amused so many dismiss it so readily.

Scenario: someone comes into my house and says "I'm taking one of your two BR films away for a year. Which will it be?"

Answer: I would enjoy a full year of BR 2049.

I'm not saying it's a more important film than the original, but it is to me just as good in most respects (compelling story, solidly executed sci-fi, exceptional cinematography) and is lacking the flaws of the original.

Ford is just in a supporting role and does it well. Inclusion of the Rachel character is merely a side note, a brief attempt of manipulation for Leto's character, but really little more than a quick visual reminder of Deckard's motives.

BR 2049 stands well on its own (not comparing it to the original); it's a superb film by one of the best filmmakers out there today.

Chris

Ignorance is not bliss.

Re-read your own auto sig.

Then watch. THEN love, like or dismiss publicly.

You can get by on a deficit of information, or a lack of execution, but not both.

It fascinates me how I first though Gosling was horribly cast for this role and as uninteresting as mud, and yet, after things clicked into place for me, it felt like the script and character were practically written for him, an incredible match-up.

I doubt it. I know what you're talking about and I dont think its the same ship. Similar but not the same. We're not in the Aliens universe. Even if we were the ship would be an antique in the Alien universe since their timeline is WAAAY farther into the future. 2049 would be set before Prometheus which takes place in 2093.

I can't watch everything, guys and gals. I watch what looks interesting. The sequel did not look interesting to me, so I haven't watched it, and won't. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Can any of you honestly say "every movie ever made appeals to me"?

I hear ya. I've never seen the sequel either; I just plain ol' "don't want to". The original Blade Runner is my "#11" favorite film of all time (barely doesn't make the Top Ten list in my signature below), and for decades I went on and on about "isn't it amazing that Blade Runner can be such a rich and complete world and yet there's no sequel or franchise? Doesn't need anything else! It's the perfect stand-alone sci-fi movie!" And then blammo, they went and ruined that aspect of it. Anyhoo... I relate to you, Jay H.; just "doesn't look interesting to me" either.

BR2049 is such a snoozefest and poor sequel in my opinion. I really wanted to enjoy it after seeing the various versions of the original but it just doesnt do anything for me.

The ending is a poor designed set piece with no cinematic value compared to the original too.

I think I have only watched it once but yeah sorry guys just couldnt get into it.

Love both movies...2049 I bought 2 4k's and one 3D of it. If they come out with another version of the 4k of the original, that will be bought too.

Well, not that it matters to me but in the Alien 1999 'Nostromo Dossier' Dallas is listed as having worked for the Tyrell Corp. In the BRFC commentary Sir Ridders says that the two are in the same universe. The docking systems are the same in both universes. Also among the Prometheus extras there is a screen that talks about Tyrell, I believe it is pretty tenuous in terms of continuity but alas it is there.
