I dont get it honestly.
I have a UHD Player but only 1080p Setup. So i mostly still buy Blu Rays.
Thats a let down for me.

Guess its a miracle that they put out the Directors Edition of TMP in a Blu Ray Set then....

You know how TCA on Amazon UK states that the 5th disc is not shown? I was wondering, are they just going to put it in a paper sleeve and let it bounce around in the box? Oh boy....

If they does then they does, I've already got a six-disc UHD case ready and waiting (six because I'll put the 50th anniversary bonus disc in there too).

Why not? I've got the whole enchilada so I might as well put it in there, and it's already sitting in my TMP theatrical UHD & BD custom combo. It's not like I'm gonna cut the disc into six pieces and put each one in a relevant case for the other movies.

An online interview with David C. Fein http://intl.startrek.com/news/david-c-fein-shares-the-secrets-of-the-star-trek-the-motion-picture-the-directors-edition about one new deleted scene for The Complete Adventures set.
[Show spoiler]Discovered about 20 years ago, this deleted scene is one fans have apparently been wanting to see for years (Illia, Decker and Scotty, in Engineering). The audio was missing.

The deleted scenes are for the regular release of the DE as well.

Just went in to show a friend a couple of the new effects and Paramount+ notes this is leaving the platform at the end of August. I figured it's an obvious move to encourage disc sales.

Looking at this, I think Paramount (for films other than the DE) are simply porting over what they release in the 50th Anniversary set, but remastering the movies from the 4K sources, and releasing the 4K disks as well.

I think the inconsistencies come partly from the way they are defining the scope of the projects.

The Trek II expansion, and the inclusion of Part 2 of the Roger Lay documentary, was rather obviously meant to whet the appetite for the 50th Anniversary set, and was an outlier of sorts as well as test the waters for whether fans will buy the remastered disks.

The 4 movie set on 4K was also likely a test the waters for the other two films (and TNG films down the line).

The TMP DE release should be seen, IMHO, as a separate entity in it's own right, and it seems they are doing that correctly in-and-of itself.

It's inclusion in the 6 movie set (could be seen almost as a 7 movie set) is really a meeting of two separate release projects (The theatrical films in 4K+revised Blu-rays, The TMPE release)

Somewhat convoluted history behind all this. We could almost write a novel detailing these movie's release on Blu-ray and 4K.

I'm thinking of using the same company that I buy my vinyl record sleeves from. Has anyone else heard of Sleeve City?

Right so I have now cancelled the Deluxe set. The SLV isn't enough to make we want to buy this and all the tat just for that.

Haven't had the SLV since a vhs copy, haven't missed it.

I felt a lot more strongly about owning the Superman Extended Cut than this and WB made that available at an affordable price, so I bought that.

This is just ridiculous by Paramount and fortunately I have enough time on the pre order to cancel and come to my senses and not buy this.

I will find some other means of buying the Theatrical in 4k and now decide whether to buy the 1-6 set or individuals.

I ended up cancelling the deluxe set too. With the $30 off coupon at Movies Unlimited, the six film set worked out to be a couple dollars less than the deluxe set by itself, and that also saves me $40 from buying the V and VI standalones, plus whatever I can get selling the four film set for. The deluxe set looks nice, but I don't really need the SLV so the main attraction for me would be the book, but I also already have the big making-of book that came out a couple years ago.

Most of my collection was stolen, so I'm fine with buying The Complete Adventure.

Ouch! I live for my collection. Don't know what I'd do if some cockroach came along and took it all away from me.

I'm sticking with my Complete Adventure preorder. The first two films are the best imo. I can do without the others.

I was thinking about getting the Complete Adventure Set for $90 with the coupon, which would get it down to $60. That's still a lot. Assuming the digital copy includes all 3 cuts, I wonder what the code will go for. $15 to $20?

Around 2008 my media collection was stolen. Over 800 CDs and a couple of hundred DVDs. What was really infuriating was going to the used store in town and seeing my stuff for sale. The police said there was nothing they could do. I did get a nice insurance settlement. Always catalogue your collections people.

A "little" Comparison between the Theatrical Version and a bunch of newly composited Effect Shots for the Directors Edition from the original Source Material:

https://slow.pics/c/N8TLjgjA

September cant come fast enough!!!

The Enterprise Fly-by in such a quality will be like seeing it for the first time!

To bad they couldnt find all the Effect Shots for the movie. Every Effect Shot recomposited would have been a miracle.
But hey...better have some of them newly done than nothing.
Trumbulls work can shine even more now!

The poor quality DNR settings on the TC does no favors for the VFX shots but irrespective of that the newly scanned and composited material is simply astonishing in clarity and detail.

Is it expected to be DNR'd throughout the entire movie or just more around those shots?

The DNR applied throughout the theatrical cut has some really poorly implemented temporal reconstruction parameters which is clearly evident in the VFX shots with plenty of blurring, loss of detail, and ghosting.
