Hi waverboy

Do not recall why I purchased the Hong Kong version unless it was the least expensive. Did not know there were multiple English language versions.

Today’s watch, Journey to the center of the earth. This is a pretty good movie with some excellent 3D. Didn’t get a very good review…here. Not sure what they were watching. I thought it was excellent. Highly recommended! Glad to see Brendon Fraser finally getting some recognition.

Hi Okie

Journey was my first introduction to home theater 3D. Did not have a 3D system but purchased the anaglyphic DVD. Was very impressed even with that.

What'd you think of the 3D in our buddy Brendan's Escape from Planet Earth?

I need to finally see this, maybe you've lit a fire under me for it.

Scenes like the kid and Brendan bickering over who gets "dibs" on the hot babe still crack me up, too bad those fell out of fashion.

It's good okie. You'll enjoy the fun and the very good 3D animation. No hot babes, however.

Today was really a true 3D(ay) for me.

First watched Amazonia. This is the German B region release without dialogue (narration in german is optional). An anusual film with animals only (humans appear only momentarily) it is about a monkey raised in captivity and needing to fend on his own after a plane crash in the Amazon jungle. Beautiful picture quality with natural 3D (meaning let nature do the spacing) of which so much immersive impact would be lost if seen flat. Highly recommended.

Then on the disc I saw trailers for two Danish animated films that looked very good in 3D and received decent reviews. Gumma-Tarzan (Ivan the Incredible) from 2012 and Orla Froshfresser (Freddy Frogface) from 2011. Was able to get used copies of both from Amazon Germany and together with separate shipping they came out to just over $20 total. Both are all region with English Audio.

I liked the frame-breaking effects, and the film had some positive themes that we don't often see anymore, but it was mild-medium 3D throughout to me, with two shots that were medium-strong and therefore striking.

Why the whole film wasn't at that striking level of 3D is a thinker.

Your review made me have another look and I ended up watching the final half of the movie all over again lol. For me there was mostly medium to strong 3D, especially the action sequences. There were times when the 3D was mild but there wasn't much going on so it didn't bother me.

Most memorable 3D was one brief shot during the final chase sequence. It got the normies to take notice.

Frame-breaking snow was like the particles and raindrops in Shiva: cool to see, but didn't make it seem like it was precipitating in the theater. Like rain hitting the window pane rather than rain coming in through an open window.

The falling to earth sequence might have been a bit stronger than the one in Valerian. Fun sequence they both were, though Escape takes the edge because Fraser & Shatner

I definitely think you need to look at your setup. You know that I have already been through that process myself so I recognize the issues. In my case I was fighting against perceived hardware limitations but in reality it's just a slow process of learning how to optimize my system.

Not much that can be done. Active glasses are what they are, I tried some vintage brand name glasses but the modern Chinesium has vast QoL improvements, and the same 3D quality.

Projector makes nWave look amazing, so when other films don't look as amazing, except in select scenes, the conclusion drawn is that those other films just don't look as amazing, except in those select scenes. But if not, then what to do but churn through projectors?

The crux is that my setup is at least as 3D as RealD. Which explains so much about the Bronze Age.

Make it a 3D 4-day instead. Finally found a used copy of Dark Star 3D that ships to America. It's John Carpenter's college attempt at movie making and though on a shoe string budget the reviews aren't too bad. Will let you know.

There are movies that are equipment agnostic and others that seem to require a well optimized system to get the full benefit. Recently I've watched MoM and L&T in 3D at my local cinema in Real3D, but only Jaws had "strong" 3D. So even the distant possibility of a 3D disc is very exciting. Compare that to MoM which is well designed and executed but the 3D is not medium strong at best.
