Do we think the 24-hour Criterion sale is starting tomorrow?

Twilight Time has to come with better discounts if they want me to pull the trigger. Kinda done with these lousy deals, especially because of their high shipping fees.

Their last sale was 25% off which is the best deal I recall seeing (since Twilight Time itself shut down and had their close-out sales).

Some of those titles with low quantities left have been in that state for quite some time and still haven't sold out.

I'd like a few of those titles and have pulled the trigger on a bunch of others previously, but since I haven't even watched those (yet), I am not doing that anymore. It would suck if "Interiors" sold out, but I'd also not really care? Can't justify spending 25-30 euros (after all shipping & import fees) on these titles when I can get Criterion releases for 15-20 euros shipped during sales.

I guess Interiors would be the last title I'd worry about going OOP at TT with the recent Sandpiper re-release, not to mention the Arrow UK used copies still floating around at relatively reasonable prices...

Flicker Alley does great restoration work. Anything of theirs that looks “massacred” is because it’s been cobbled together with the (often in pieces, literally) only surviving film elements that are/were left.

You're right; I was actually thinking of "Inserts". Don't think there's a different release for that one elsewhere, but still not in a rush to get it.

If you call wiping out the film grain 'restoration'. Something I have been against since the beginning of HD on disc like Patton, a massacre that had a lot of defenders.
I went with the film grain loving Arrow's edition of A Trip to the Moon instead.

Flicker Alley and their restoration partners would never intentionally eliminate grain structure or otherwise compromise original film elements. The label has done invaluable work to preserve/promote early film history.

And, similar to other equally important yet niche labels such as Third Window Films (contemporary Japanese cinema) or Second Run (Eastern European cinema), it’s a passion project who’s releases frequently don’t even break even.

To echo another comment upthread, implying FA would willfully promote/sell releases that are substandard to the limitations of the source elements is simply wrong.

I think you’re thinking of a different label. Film Chest, perhaps?

I know some people are touchy about the UK rating logos, but I usually don't care for the commissioned artwork anyway and end up flipping the sleeves to the original artwork.

For whatever reason, MSRPs across all labels are less in the UK than in the US. Maybe it has to do with manufacturing costs? Or perhaps just what consumers are willing to pay. I don't know. I just know boutique labels in the UK are more reasonable. Their Criterions MSRP for 17.99, while in the US they're $39.99. Eurekas are usually 15-18 too...

It could also be that they're mostly following Criterion's US sales of 1/2 off.

$17? Come drink with me is on sale for $20. This is a US only release so no choice but to get it there. Everywhere else I see has it for $27.

Maybe it's different for that one because it's more recent or a US exclusive, but the vast majority of the back catalog is at $17 for standard releases.

yes, for those I agree. If you are region free, then you can save substantial money getting the region B/UK versions.

Kind of annoying that Indicator and Arrow don't have US sales at the same time (or at all, so far) as their UK sales. Indicator has some US-only titles that need love.

At this point it's way cheaper to get a region free player for $130, and save that amount almost immediately on 1 or 2 orders from the UK. I'm becoming obsessed about getting one almost daily, but can't pull the trigger yet.

I noticed from the OP that Shout has a big sale in March. Do they have more than one big sale a year? If so when are they usually?
