The Evil Dead remake is overrated and has none of the heart of the original, which it's billed as a throwback to.
None of the characters are interesting or likable even though the actors, Jane Levy especially, are doing what they can with the microscopic scraps of personality the script gives them. The gore is repetitive, predictable, and completely lacking the chaos and unpredictability of the original. The behavior and appearance of the possessed is ripped straight out of the Exorcist. The plot hinges on characters making the dumbest decisions imaginable, even more than usual for a horror movie. The opening scene completely blows all tension for the rest of the movie by giving away so much. The climax is flaccid and half hearted because the final opponent is less physically imposing than any of the other possessed we've seen up till that point. I could go on but it's just a very dull, uninspired movie. It could have been written by an AI for how bland and formulaic it is. I've never understood why the horror fandom goes so crazy for it and holds it up as one of the best horror films of the 2010s. It's like a bowl of stale popcorn covered in way too much butter. Babe: Pig in the City is George Miller's best film.

Even if GC does rip off BTiLC I prefer it. Eddie Murphy (IMHO) is way more charismatic than Russell. |

Not in direct plot but in being a mystical oriental fantasy, even has James Hong and Victor Wong in it after they'd been cast in Big Trouble.

Calling The Golden Child a rip-off of BTILC is a bit of a stretch, but I guess we are in the Unpopular Opinions thread... ![]() |

That's the only QT movie I've never revisted. I own it in the "Complete Grindhouse" release, I just have never gotten around to giving it another shot. Didn't care for it much in theaters.

James Hong being in both I think could maybe not look like a ripoff as it was "old chinese man" of choice for about 30-40 years and the characters are quite different but Wong really is playing such a similar character. |

"original" and "different" don't automatically mean "good".

Two separate opinions:
#1. Christopher Nolan is a director that I personally detest due to him forcing Warner Bros to have Tenet be the first major blockbuster out when theaters reopened during the pandemic, a bad choice considering how confusing and pretentious that film was #2. (not related to #1) Any film that is actively harmful to a certain group of people in my eyes is worse than any studio blockbuster that may have a lot of flaws which usually gets placed in worst of year lists Last edited by Bubbles-11; 01-10-2023 at 02:39 PM. |

We get so many films about historical oppression and bigotry partly because they allow the establishment to pat itself on the back for social advances of the past rather than looking at those which need to be made today.
