I know The Departed was good and won an Oscar, but I would have recasted it like this:
Billy: Leonardo DiCaprio Colin: Brad Pitt Costello: Jack Nicholson Dignam: Mark Wahlberg Queenan: Robert DeNiro Madolyn: Margot Robbie Ellerby: Alec Baldwin In the original Infernal Affairs, it was not only a duel between Billy and Colin, but it was also a duel between their bosses, Costello and Queenan. In The Departed, I felt that Queenan was pretty much overshadowed by Costello and he was like a second rate character. I would have preferred someone who could have as much screen presence as Nicolson, and I think DeNiro could have pulled it off. I would be curious to see Nicolson and DeNiro playing off each other. As for Billy and Colin, I think Leo nailed the role, but Matt looks too much like Leo (and also Dignam), which could be confusing to people unfamiliar with these actors. I also find that Matt's Colin is like a jerk and not too smart.. while I think Pitt could have played Colin as more of a smart badass bad guy, more in line with the way Andy Lau played Colin. You always felt that Andy's Colin was a threat to Billy because he could outsmart Billy. Never felt that way with Matt's Collin. Margot as Madolyn to complete the hotness trifecta (Leo, Pitt, Robbie). I just couldn't buy Leo falling in love with Vera. We know he would b*ng Margot. We saw their chemistry in TWOWS. |
