I’m not buying that an extra hour just for slow motion action scenes made a film significantly better.

If there is an extended cut or director's cut, I almost always watch that version, unless I saw the movie during its theatrical release.

Like others have said, I think Justice League fits the answer.

Apocalypse Now Redux is a 10/10 movie for me. The original version is a 5/10 movie at best for me. Granted I saw the Redux version before the original version.

I'm not a fan of Redux - those extra scenes make the film longer, but not better. The original theatrical version is easily Coppola's best movie.

Yeah, those extra scenes bring the story momentum to a screeching halt for a solid hour and it never recovers. The French plantation stuff feels like it's from a totally different movie entirely.

Apocalypse Now Redux gets my vote for best example of how sometimes adding stuff back can destroy an otherwise masterful movie.

Are you talking about the US Theatrical Cut or the Sid Sheinberg edit that appeared on TV. As the US Theatrical Cut isn't totally bad, and was reluctantly edited down by Gilliam.

Kingdom of Heaven is the closest to doing it in my opinion. It's a nearly different film.

My three favorite movies of all time:

Blade Runner The Final Cut
Brazil (Director's Cut)
Apocalypse Now (Theatrical Cut)

I am not against changing movies once they are released as long as the original is still avaliable.

I agree - but there isn't anything about the shorter theatrical version that I would call "bad". I found it interesting but incomplete. There are quite a few occasions where I've felt this way about a movie, and then a longer cut is released, making a decent movie better.

And then there are movies like Alexander, which is bad no matter which version you watch. I doubt that's unpopular, though.

Burn After Reading > The Big Lebowski

Burn should be considered top tier Coens. Absolutely hysterical.

they're very different movies and I like them both a lot--

I would say that Burn After Reading is the most underrated Coens movie....

The comparison is just that they’re both comedies in the Coens filmography. Lebowski is considered Coens best comedy and one of their best overall. It’s a distinction I think Burn After Reading should have.

I think the only great Avengers movie is Infinity War.
The first movie lost me during the climax which I think went on for too long.
The second movie had a quippy villain who was a joke when he needed to be deadly serious.
The forth movie, whilst entertaining, was fan service gone mad.

Me neither. I actually thought it was quite good. I just wished they'd make Thor maybe 25-30% less humourous.

Godfather III is in my opinion far better for having gotten the Director's Cut treatment.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but it caught some heat in the Abyss thread.

Movies set mainly underwater suck and, generally speaking, underwater sequences are death for a movie. With exceptions. But if they are building up to an action set piece in a a movie and people start putting on scuba gear, take a sip of coffee or make sure you're not operating any heavy machinery at the time. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I do still think the film was too tightly edited and likely that edit put more focus on Thor humour, Jane just feels underdeveloped to me which I think undermines a good deal of the films drama.
