I don't like loaning movies out either. My friends are welcome to come over and watch movies with me if they wish.

I’m becoming more and more isolated as I get older. Except my family and one or two friends, I often find myself happier in my own company.

Watched 65 last night in AMC Laser and the movie was a lot of fun, but I really missed that it wasn't in a premium format. It's such a crowded marketplace, so this one plays like a March dump. With that said, the 4K disc will be day 1! There are many scenes that will benefit from that Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This being a Sony release, it will have Atmos for the home.

I also got my Dungeons & Dragons tickets for Dolby Cinema, so my March is finally all booked up!

It appears Bob Iger wants make physical media a priority for Disney again:

"Home video, at one point as we called it, was extremely lucrative for our company,” Iger said. “We’re looking at all of that [again].”

The CEO believes content can co-exist on traditional distribution platforms and streaming without damaging either due to differing platform audiences."

I have pretty mixed feelings about it. I can’t decide if it will make me spend more as I can’t wait as long so I’ll spend like 10% more perhaps. On the other hand it removed probably 1000 dollars off my to buy list.

Overall I feel like I’ll spend 10% more on average for Warner titles while buying like 60% less in general.
Just tried selling Superman the Animated Series in the digital trading thread. Yeah, expired. That's what I get for procrastinating. Had it sitting on my desk under my other papers for months.

More codes are expired, fewer discs are coming with codes. It's pretty clear that subscription is killing the online library.

If you live alone there's no reason to not churn the studio services one by one soaking up all the content you want for roughly $1 a day. Good news for advertisers and those of limited means but perhaps bad news for the art.

Finally, some sense. Now bring on those Andor and Mandalorian discs.
Release the Touchstone catalogue. You can do it, Iger.

Don't know what that means, but don't really care. One of my nephews used two of my codes (that came with BDs) many many years ago when he was going to Africa for a trip. None of the others where ever used.

I agree with what you are saying in the sense that I would never watch a digital copy on my phone/tablet when I can watch it on disk in my HT which is why I never redeemed any of them (hassle with no return). But I think there can be valid reasons for people to like having both. It might have been before digital copies but when I used to travel a lot for work I used to have a laptop and some DVDs with me so I could watch my films, for someone today it could be his tablet with digital copies, I gave the example of my nephew , long flight to Africa, wait at airport, Safari camp, bhe wanted to make sure he had something fun to watch if he felt like it....

Default Digital Codes Expiring!

I use to Love the Digital Codes, even bought some here but haven't used them in years. Vudu has better Sales than those Codes, even $5 Movies...Don't Need Those Codes!

you seem to think it costs next to nothing to have all the machines and infrastructure necessery so you can DL that digital copy while it would be hard to make the codes expire when expiration is already built into the product.

let me put it this way. Let's say there is a DB with a field expiration date associated with the film.

update x set expirationdate=getdate() from movieDB where expiration>=getdate()

and all the films expire today

and that is assuming it is not as simple as turn off the server/service.

Will be interesting to see how many copies of True Lies and The Abyss sells if they in fact make it to disc. Since they are catalog titles wonder if they will include digital codes. Most of my more recent catalog titles have not included codes.

I keep saying that Movies on a Disc or Movies on a Server are all the same, I have over 800 in my Collection and haven't lost any. How many of you have this Movie on Disc in HD?....Fantastic Western!

And it will never be true.

You do always say it though.

I could say cassettes and CDs are the same. Or Dogs and Sheep are the same. It's not exactly freedom of speech it's more that it's ok to not understand something no matter how many times people want to explain it.

I have it on disc in HD and like it a lot and find the video quality poor. Badly needs a 4K.

Many of the movies on my server are corrupted after some power outages and NAS freezes before buying a UPS almost a year ago and replacing the motherboard and CPU with my "gaming" PC's after upgrading. Seventeen minutes into Criterion's I Knew Her Well a week ago, a saw a line across the screen, stopped the movie, ripped the disc again and started over. Not even gonna bother anymore playing movies from my disc collection that I haven't ripped recently. I am still a little paranoid about these WD Red hard drives after all that has happened. Even though the NAS has not frozen or lost power in four months now.

Would probably look much better on Blu-ray if scanned on a new film scanner like the Lasergraphics ScanStation (here), better yet the Director (here). A project for Robert A Harris that will never happen.

I have brought my physical copies with me to friends homes and I let people borrow my films. Perosnaly I feel quality is important, I won't force someone (or myself) to watch a lower quality digital copy when they (and I if I am there) get to watch a better physical copy.

I am also not looking to be everyone's free Netflix the least they can do is come over to borrow the copy.

Quote:
Your traveling and away from home but you still have access to your collection.
I can just as easily bring a few films with me on physical copies. Actually in 2006 when I went to my sisters cottage right after Christmas I brought some films, games and my PS3. The car did not complain there was a PS3 and some games in there.

Quote:
Your to lazy to bother to find the disc and put it into the blu ray player .
I am not that lazy, plus I literaly pass in front of my library on the way to the HT. So no effort at all.

Quote:
You want to just watch something on your iPad in bed.
why would I do that? the recliners in my HT are extremely comfortable (had many kid sleep overs on them and guests that slept on them) and if I want to watch something in bed I have a projector and 8' screen. Why should I pick my tablet to watch it on?

Quote:
Do you drive around with 100s of cds on your person at all times or do you use a digital form to listen to music for of the convenience? Its really the same scenario with movies
neither. Small local trips (work, grocery...) I listen to the radio. Longer road trips I just bring some CDs but never 100s, why would I need 100s?

Quote:
Its kind of ironic you guys throw away digital copy codes I guess as a symbolic gesture to support physical media while I buy less physical media because I want to get a digital copy also.
symbolism or supporting physical media has nothing to do with it. To put it simply I can waste my time redeeming those codes, I can waste my money having the machines to locally store those codes but why when I 100% know that I will never watch that digital copy because right there in front of me is the physical that I will choose to watch 100% of the time.

I don't have anything against "digital" I have digital PVRs that record OTA\FTAS but they add value to me, I get to skip all the ads and I get to watch those shows when I feel like it.
