I'll try to be brief. This year I decided to try to upgrade my audio gear. I was running a fairly entry level Denon AVR750 and my speakers are 5.2.2 with the 2 Atmos speakers in the top middle position.

I found a Marantz AV7702 MK II processor for $500 with pick up from some one near me and I picked up the processor.

I started researching amps and what I found is Monoprice, Emotiva, Outlaw and other amp companies source amps from ATI (Amplifier Technologies Inc) and then then add features to them. With this in mind I was set on going with Outlaw Audio and waiting until the end of the year so that I could afford it.

However, I read a post about the Ultimate 11 ch Budget Atmos amp.

I picked up this Amp for $200+$104 shipping and it arrived looking new.

I have it partially setup now. I'm waiting for some special cables to arrive today to bridge the left, center, and right channels to 220 amps each leaving 10 more amps available for surrounds. When I have done that I will run Audyssey and finalize the setup but with defaults it's sounding pretty good already. (I have the LCR unbridged for now.)

I have a few things on the to do list such as bridging the front channels, running audyssey, making specific setup changes and reprograming my Harmony

I didn't have to modify the amp at all. I use a small power supply to power the crestron board and after any loss of power a override button needs to by physically pressed. I have lost power 3 or 4 times in the last 20 years so this is ok. I call it a "power interrupt detection" feature.

That said (sorry I tried to be brief) it's up and running and so far so great. I got very lucky with both the used processor and the used amp.

The best thing is both are capable of 11 channel output so I have a future expansion waiting when I will change the speakers to 7.2.4

I only got a minute or so into the above video.

When he said the AVR is rated at 165Watts into 1 channel and then you realize that amplification stage is shared to 7 speakers - I guess they hope you don't like math.

I got a SPAM/SCAM txt saying my Netflix was on hold ... ha ha ... I would love that. I only have it for the kids and hope to drop them soon.

Be careful as scamming is a thriving industry.

Nice that HBO’s The Last Of US is getting a 4K release. If this is going to be just two or three seasons I may grab the disc.

Haven’t watched it yet, so that’s a factor too. Heard good things.

Power ratings can be so misleading as there really is no Truth in Labeling when it comes to measuring and listing.

I get about 3-5 scam calls a day, a few attempts a week through email trying to get me to click on something and input my password, and at least a text a day wanting me to click on it. There are so many scammers out there and it is only going to get worse I feel.

I agree about the ratings. It's best if possible to audition but that has become difficult.

I saw an amazing documentary about scamming that was truly revealing. It starts with a region where the police can be bribed. Then people are abducted and have to work scamming with every waking hour or be punished. You wonder why anyone would think it's worthwhile but then ... these people are being used against their will in some cases.

The Abyss and True Lies will be day one purchase. Not a fan of Avatar, will be interesting to see if a BD 3D is released. Will wait and see what they do with Titanic, if they do a new and good Atmos mix then I may do a ?? dip on it.

Last time I watched True Lies it had not aged well but ..... I'm in just for the JLC dance scene in particular. High art to be sure.

edit - Regarding my comments yesterday about the new Audio setup ... I should not have run Audyssey after all. I was wondering why the sound was so good with defaults but Audyssey made it terrible. It gets speaker distance wrong in these older units so that has to be corrected but it also always considers my bookshelf speakers as Large. And the App I have (Multi EQ) does not support this unit so I can't defeat the build in error known as "mid range correction" or limit room correction to below 200HZ. .... So basically ... I just need to do the setup manually with a tape measure and SPL meter which I have started to do.

Great news! Thanks for sharing Lee. 3 out of 4 will be day 1 buys for me. I have never been a fan of Avatar, so will probably hold off on that. Giant blue people with the plot of Pocahontas or Ferngully is not my cup of tea…..although it will probably look amazing.

They are coming in UHD and no one cares about your HDX copies but I'm happy for you all the same.

That's way more than I need. I already have the Sony 1080, so this new one would be the natural upgrade when the price drops and the time comes. It's currently $899 on Amazon, so with sales tax it puts it at about 1K. I paid $599 for the 1080 three years ago.

Like I said, it's all Digital now, so the Disc Scans should also make it to Digital Streaming. I know with other Digital Movies, the upgrade also happens to Streaming!
