That's true that a decent portion of former public figures likely have to consider conventions to keep food on the table. It's probably not a comfortable transition for many to look for say a desk 9-5 after the acting gigs dry up. But some obviously are extremely well off either way with someone like Robert Englund coming to mind. For people with continued cult popularity it probably makes sense to do these shows full time. And perhaps some just really do like the atmosphere of being around fans all the time.
