2025 would seem more likely given that they can’t even hire a writer, much less start work on the script, until the strike ends.

I’m VERY glad we’re getting a new director. Radio Silence had two chances and both films were still filled with bad exposition dialogue, plot holes, very dumb character decisions and motives. I know the writing is to blame but I feel like if RS were as big of fans as they said they were, they would’ve fixed the scripts themselves.

The closeup shots in 5 were absolutely criminal.

6 improved a lot but the action scenes were still so shaky and the color palette of the film was still very dull. Part 5 had a boring blue and tan look for the clothes and walls and filter, Scream 6 had those awful poorly lit apartment scenes.

I feel like people are judging Christopher Landon too harshly. Both HDD movies and Freaky both had budgets of $5M-$9M. He did the best he could with such low budgets.

..... If you think that somehow the other Screams didn't have plotholes and heavy exposition, dumb decisions and motives, you haven't been paying attention... or you're being selectively biased.

Also, did you hurt yourself when squeezing out that bit of griping about color pallette and close up shots? Like dude, none of the Screams were exactly "Burtonesque". Let's not forget the Vaseline on S4.

Despite all that, we still get a kick out of this reliably entertaining series.

Your complaints are weird and hypocritical.

I’m optimistic. I loved both HDDs and Freaky gets a lot of replays in this house. Yes, they are both horror comedies but I’m hopeful he’ll be able to flip the balance and focus more on the horror; he should be well aware of what he’s stepping into by accepting this gig.

And if not, well… what better way to mirror Scream 3?

Just a few things about how bad the writing is in Scream 5:

— The entire opening scene is just there to be exposition dialogue and remind us of Scream 1 and Billy and Stu so Billy will be fresh in our minds whenever he pops up in the mirror and we will remember Stu’s house.

You can tell the movie was written by an old man with such lines as “Amber is looking particularly fetching tonight” and “your mom talks about you in group.” The landline? The way Tara believes Amber is in danger from a pre-recorded video? Teens today would automatically assume it was a joke. Tara barely knows Stab? Isn’t her best friend Stab-obsessed? If they were true friends, they would’ve grew up watching that movie every weekend.

Why does Tara try to run to Amber’s house? Amber’s house is isolated out of town somewhere. Tara lives in town. Why didn’t she go upstairs to hide? So many dumb decisions.

— The first 1/3 of the movie is just exposition dialogue. Show, don’t tell. Opening scene? Exposition. Hospital scene where Sam gives her long monologue? Exposition. The bar scene? Exposition. Stop it.

— Tara’s friend group didn’t even feel like real friends. They all secretly hated each other.

— Al the damn close up shots. Stop. Lack of suspense. Ghostface just pops out of nowhere and kills people. Yawn.

— Dewey going back and getting distracted by a phone call while getting super close to the killer is the stupidest scene in the franchise. I don’t mind Dewey dying but at least do it in a smart way. Why are they hauling Dewey’s body out of the hospital? Aren’t morgues in the basement?

— Judy also traveling places without pepper spray, taser, pocket knife, even though she makes her son carry those things. Why did she turn off her police siren upon pulling up to her house? Leave it on so the neighbors can come outside and be nosy.

— Sam knows there’s a killer out there so why is she leaving her sister alone on an easily accessible private floor? Stay by her side. Why is she only calling Tara as she speeds to the hospital? Call the hospital and send multiple workers up to that private floor.

— how did nobody know Amber lived in Stu’s house? Mindy should’ve known she’s a Stab fanatic as well. Amber and Mindy going into the basement was so pointless. The scene could be deleted and not affect the movie. How was Amber able to walk around the party with a gun in her tight jeans? Nobody noticed her packing heat?

— Sidney came to town for one purpose only, to stop the killers.. and she shows up with one gun only? What happened to smart Scream 3 Sidney who brought a backup gun and bulletproof vest? She should’ve done that here as well. They never checked her for weapons. Imagine her pulling out a gun during Richie and Amber’s monologue? Movie over.

— The Stab lure is all wrong. They didn’t make a movie based off 4’s events so why did Richie and Amber think they’d get their own movie??? How was Judy a character in a Stab movie if they never made a movie based on 4’s events?

— the characters always seem to forget they have cell phones to call for help in the finale. Liv could’ve called the cops once she found Chad’s body. Sam could’ve called the cops when she was wandering the house looking for Tara. Tara could’ve called the cops whenever Sam set her free. Sidney and Gale could’ve called the cops once they arrived. Gale could’ve called the cops once she got shot.

After Amber shot Liv, Sam could’ve ran outside through the kitchen back door but she takes off down into the basement? And how are Sam, Sidney, Amber and Richie able to wander around the house at the same time without seeing each other? The house isn’t that big.

—————————

And that’s just from the top of my head. If the directors and writers were as big of Scream fans as they claimed, they could’ve polished that script a lot more.

Scream 5 felt like Spyglass hired two 50 year old men who never saw the Scream movies before, made them binge watch all 4 in one night, and made them write the script for 5 and didn’t allow them to use the internet for research.

Some of these are good points but others could have a few answers.

1. Scream is basically the sequel to this Scream, not surprised they’d mention Billy/Stu etc. also a nice little nod to Jennifer Jolie. I didn’t mind it as it was like a message to my Teenhood.

2. If Richie is on the phone I’m not surprised he’s say those things too. Wasn’t he 25? Why would she assume it was a joke? This has happened twice now in Woodsboro.

3. Tara can drive right? I don’t know though, maybe it was the adrenaline.

4. They seemed fine with me. Mindy was being the OTT friend but they were being sarcastic with each other. It reminded me of the Scream 4 friends if I’m honest.

5. The Dewey bit was annoying for me too tbh but maybe the call took him by surprise?

6. Tara had police with her. Sam probably thought she was safe with police guards with her. She didn’t know that the killing of Jusy and her son Wes would make one of the officers go to the crime scene.

7. We don’t really get a scene where Mindy talks about the house but I’m sure she knows being she’s watching the first stab which is identical to Ambers house. She’s know Amber for years probably so she’d may have mentioned it before. We don’t need a scene with the cast, minus Sam and Sidney (bear in mind, Sam might of not known Amber lived there, like I don’t know where my brothers friends live let alone know what their houses look like, Amber wasn’t a big stab fan and Sam probably wasn’t too so why would her sister tell Sam or even know Amber lived in Stus house?

8. Sidney had two guns with her, she gave one to Gale. The bulletproof vest, don’t know, can you buy a bulletproof vest in America?? Amber, I’d say, got hers from the cop she killed in the hospital.

9. Not sure about the stab lore but Judy could of been a character in one of the movies, even if they didn’t make one based off the fourth film, they could of added her in one of the other stab movies as she was in Woodsboro anyway.

10. It’s a horror slasher movie, we could say the same for other horror movies. Also someone did call the police but we didn’t see it. Sidney or Gale could have called the police when they arrived or not because no one knew what was happening until Mindy was stabbed and then it went all off by then.

It’s easy to find hate in the movie that Wes didn’t make but some of the point could have an answer to them.

The close up were a lot but I’m glad they changed it in the 6th one. I don’t hate any of the Screams though, like they are all above 8 out of 10s for me but Scream 5 is my second last just now (Sorry but I can’t get past the ugly filter on 4 and the ending they did)

2-3-6-1-5-4 is my order in rewatchable terms for me

I'd say Scream 3 is the weakest, and borders on being bad at times, but yeah, not a single "Bad" film overall in the franchise.

Question for those that loved or liked Scream 6 when it came out. Have any of you changed your opinions upon re-watching it a few times? Just curious.

Scream 6 is even worse from a writing and logical standpoint, but the action set pieces are better.

I didn't really care for Scream 5 but i really enjoyed Scream 6 for the most part. Although that "core four" stuff almost made me throw up.

Maybe I missed it, but how do we know they didn't make a Stab movie based on the events of Scream 4? I assumed they had if Judy was a character in the Stab films.

Landon ain't a bad choice. As long as he tones down the comedy. He's a bit too gross out or slapstick which wouldn't work for Scream. But he can def do the razor edge commentary.

To change up the flavour I say they make his a road movie. I love the idea of a chase movie but with a slasher.

I read from an interview before Scream 6 came out that the chase scenes in the movie are on par or surpass the ones in Scream 2. I disagree and was disappointed in the movie although I like how they changed the number of killers. I thought Scream 6 is the second worst in the franchise after Scream 3.
