Went to a horror con over the weekend where I cosplayed as Myers. To get into the spirit, I started listening to the soundtrack. I forgot how full and dynamic the soundtrack is supposed to sound, which reminded me of the whole debacle of the Laserdisc vs Blu-ray mono tracks. Whoever handles the next release needs to make fixing this the number one priority. We cannot say we have a definitive release until then.

Currently on sale (along with Halloween II (1981) and Halloween III) on Bull Moose for $19.97.

Orders over $45 ship for free within the continental US.

Yeah, I'm not buying Halloween on 4K until we get a little closer to definitive. This surely isn't the final Halloween remaster we've seen on home video.

I own the Lionsgate release but haven’t watched it yet.
Is it worth a double dip or should I stick only to the Lionsgate disc?

Worth noting I suppose, I saw this at my local Walmart again for this time of year ($26.97 fwiw) and it still has the slipbox.

Double dip. Shout has way better color timing and the OG mono, which while not as crisp as the laserdisc mono, is still much better than the downmix on the LG disc. Shout release also has the previous color timing releases as well as the TV cut as broadcasted

Yes, worth the double dip and I love the color of the new disc. It's just the f'ing encoding which is better in DV, but fingers crossed it's done competently at some point, somewhere.

This is marginally off-topic, but Fangoria shared a link yesterday regarding a forthcoming illustrated reprint of the Halloween novelization from 1979 by Curtis Richards, which is apparently only available to purchase through October 1st. I thought it might be of interest to any fans.

I have the original first-edition paperback which I bought (or rather, convinced my dad to buy) around 20 years ago when I was an adolescent—I think it was an eBay purchase and even then it was fairly expensive (around $40 if I remember right). I looked out of curiosity, and now the first editions are fetching prices exceeding $300, which is insane. Even though I have the first edition, I couldn't help but order one of these—it looks beautiful. I haven't read the novelization for many years, but I do recall it having a significant subplot regarding Samhain and a demonic subtext to Michael Myers that was never touched upon in the film.

Not quite. The book itself will be available after that. Only the limited H45 cover (the new take on the original book cover art) has a cutoff date of 10/1.

After that, only the standard edition with a new cover (a blue illustration of the Shape on the stairs) will be available.

Oops, you are correct—I did order the H45 cover art version myself. I am glad to know it will still be in print with the alternate art.

If you're planning on watching Halloween over the next month. You might enjoy recreating the cinema experience with this trailer reel. (UK release)

Is anyone else having playback issues with this disc after a couple of years? There are no noticeable defects to the disc, it has just started skipping horribly. All the other titles in the series have no playback issues.
