Sometimes I think all (some) Star Wars fans want is for X nostalgic character to show up, say a few lines, and then disappear. Feels like every time they bring in a pre-existing, beloved character, everyone tears them to shreds no matter what. If they don't do anything, they're wasted. If they do something and grow, they're overpowered or not staying true to the character. It's true- no one hates Star Wars more than a Star Wars fan.
I think Sabine's fight was perfectly in character. She didn't immediately go for the lightsaber because it's still not her nature. Not to mention the last 2 times she used the saber, she got her ass handed to her. She still wants to rough it out Mandalorian style, the way she knows how. I saw the blasters ricocheting off her armor as a few things- reminding the audience that beskar armor is bulletproof, and also her using it to her advantage. The bandits don't know her or what she is. Of course they'd aim for the midsection, only to be caught off guard when it deflected. When Sabine realized she was overpowered, then she reached for her saber. She's learning to reach for it in a fight like a Jedi would (though many Jedi preferred to hash things out without sabers too). In regards to the Grand Mothers saying Sabine reeked of Jedi, I thought it was an interesting multi-layered sentence. They know that Sabine is perhaps more attuned to the Force than even she realizes. They may also smell Ahsoka on her (if the line is to be taken a more literal way), and that Sabine has been with someone far more powerful. I also got the indication that maybe they can sense that Baylon isn't quite as loyal to Thrawn as they may think he is. He's clearly aligning himself with the highest power, but he hasn't forgotten his old ways and honor in favor of the dark side just yet. I think they may have sensed that he could turn on them at any moment (which may end up happening). Such a shame about Ray passing. Obviously we don't know if Baylon makes it out of the season alive, but if he does, assuming they don't just recast the role, then we lose out on whatever he would've offered in the future. I suppose they could recycle it into another character- Shin, perhaps, if she lives- but Ray just has such a way and weight about him. I'm absolutely loving the show. I feel like it's skewing closer to old Star Wars while still mixing in a lot of the newer elements. You can tell it's the show Dave has wanted to make for quite some time, and he's having fun with it. So by extension, I'm having fun with it. |

This is his first appearance in official Live Action Star Wars - whatever he looks like here in this episode is what he's supposed to look like.

Yeah, I'm really loving this show. Episode 6 set up everything nicely for the next two episodes so I'd say we are in for a treat.
Sometimes I can't believe how spoiled I am to be having high-quality Star Wars beamed directly into my living room. I didn't love Sabine in Rebels but once they gave her the dark saber she became interesting. Now that she is Ahsoka's apprentice, that just continues the thread, plus the fact she is an underdog in the Force adds another layer. On top of that, casting Natasha made me downright love this character. All of the character designs for the villagers, the wolf steeds, and the Nightsisters are just plain fun to look at too. And Thrawn's voice is SO unsettling. |

I noticed husky Thrawn, but ultimately didn't mind. It's never going to be a 1:1 adaptation from the cartoon (nor would I want it to be). Considering Lars is a pretty skinny guy in real life, it was a deliberate choice to make Thrawn a little bulkier, probably having to do with him being stuck on the planet for however long. I'm sure we'll see him slim down a bit in subsequent seasons (or with a little Nightsister Magic diet).

I think Event Horizon is a kinda/sorta remake of The Black Hole. Shoot, throw Interstellar into that soup....it was after Tron: Legacy did just ok at the b.o. and Interstellar sucked the air out of the room that Disney went radio silent on development of a Black Hole reboot.

Only just caught up with the last two episodes. TCW flashbacks in episode 5, wow. I thought Hayden was great in this one, I'm glad he's back in the SW fold.
On the earlier point of not having to consume the expanded material to enjoy the shows, generally yes, but I really appreciate the OT more after TCW. It's not essential viewing, but they add greater context for sure. |

For those of you who want to know what is going on with Thrawn, The Nightsisters, and Peridea, you need to look carefully at the first episode and the last episode and familiarize yourself with the Zeffo, as shown in The Bad Batch and Fallen Order. It turns out that the Zeffo actually go farther back, to Rebels and TWBW. They were there, but not made known to us at the time. We know - through Fallen Order and Ahsoka - that The Nightsisters have some sort of relationship with the Zeffo and seem to be jockeying to take whatever Force knowledge and power that ancient race had left behind, after their culture collapsed and disappeared. Anyway, you've got some brushing up to do before the next episode, which I expect will further clarify what's going on there.
