Also we know you tube gets around 1 to 3 bucks per 1k ads which are much harder to skip over then streaming ads (short and speratic). You get like 5 ads per hour streaming and watch 2 hours a day then that works out to around 300 ads a month with a net profit for the studios of around .30 cents to a dollar. Ad revenue isn't much of a carrot for streaming services its more of a stick for consumers to hope they feel less bad paying extra for the service because at least they dont have ads.

I can't find the data now but I remember seeing a comparison of revenue per ad for different websites -- YouTube was particularly low. It's no secret the streamers are trying to push people to the ad tiers; you'll see the price gap between them widening. Conversely, YouTube actually wants you to join their ad-free service and that's why they push it with perks such as google music and "enhanced bitrate." I think music streaming is the same where they earn more from ad-free users.

They look great by the way. I bought the Evil Dead trilogy earlier in the year. The second is my favourite but I find Army Of Darkness to be constantly entertaining. It’s a perfect third film and it did the right thing by moving away from the set up of the first two brilliant films.

Yeah, this completes my 4K collection of the original Evil Dead trilogy. I got the Groovy boxed set that released a few years back. Now I just need the Evil Dead 2013 and Evil Dead Rise 4K's.

I’ve witnessed a lot of things spoken in negative ways against home theater enthusiast over the years but never thought I would see folks waving a flag for ads as a alternative to physical media. I understood those that promoted HBO, Showtime and Starz over LD.

Look folks, we get it that some of you can not afford to buy disc but you must be in a desperate mental state to come to a site called Blu-ray.COM and promote content with ads in it. It just shows how little you understand the view of a enthusiast.

Get over it, enthusiast will always look for the best quality available and for now that is Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray disc. So all your rantings here will only serve to make you look jealous, envious and spiteful.

Craven really hit the bullseye with Scream, familiar yet fresh, with an absolute killer opening sequence (inspired by When A Stranger Calls of course). Really likeable cast too with some great sequences.
I also love the sequel but I’m luke warm on the rest. They are entertaining but not up to the same high standards.

TBH, I find the whole tone of this thread devolving to the level of the rest of this site...Which is just more shameful given that I believe the average age here is a little higher than the site as a whole...

Lee has a dissenting opinion, parts of which I agree with. I wouldn't upvote them because the manner in which he presents them is distasteful to say the least...but he's one guy..on an internet forum.

The responses to him are far more ridiculous. Name calling (idiots), false equivalencies, calling for him to be banned, gatekeeping, and claiming victimhood?

I guess that last one is a straw for me lol. We live in a world with some real victims - Home Theater enthusiaists and movie goers have never been one of them...

Some of you may recall I have a Zappiti system (NAS and player) and that Zappiti is no more as ruled by the French court. Well some of the original people have emerged from the ashes as R_volution (here). They will make their Media Center software available to us Zappiti owners and supposedly to us Zidoo owners as well somewhere down the road.

I intend to replace my Zidoo Z9X with the new UHD5000 (here) as soon as they squash a few more firmware bugs. My rack shelf and 1TB SSD for it should arrive today.

But, ... I'm loving it.

I guess losing money stops being fun when it goes too far.

Disney-owned streaming services (Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu) lost $1.05 billion in the 2023 first quarter after losing $1.5 billion in the previous quarter. The Comcast-owned Peacock lost $2.5 billion in 2022 and expects to lose as much as $3 billion this year. Paramount’s streaming services (Pluto, Paramount Plus) lost $511 million in the 2023 first quarter after losing $575 million in the 2022 fourth quarter.

I feel so bad for the daft business people willing to burn this money that the only thing I can do is make sure to not be a part of it.


Serious Question for Lee, - You have suggested Disney+ will be "profitable" soon .... Does that mean cut the losses to zero or acutally make up for them because if it's the latter...

Last night the discounts coupons on certain 4K discs from Amazon came back on and I was able to score Rebel Without a Cause on 4K disc for $9.99.

After today's work shift I will be on a glorious 8 day "staycation." Halloween is on Tuesday and that's reserved for Horror films only.
