God forbid people in a niche hobby have valid complaints about what is in theory a premium product

Yeah because most of the time we have to sift through all the 'mine is coming in the mail in two days' 'mine should arrive tomorrow' or 'mine should arrive in 10 minutes' 'mine has a slight blemish on the plastic case that I can see with a loop'

And B, once you've played with said AI tools, or are even mildly conversant with the look they deliver, you can't help but see it. If all you had was a digibeta tape or some low resolution digital video, sure, you can get very impressive results, you'll still have the upscaled look, there's really no escaping it, but the trade off is worth it when dealing with lesser sources...but when you have access to a lovely new negative scan...why bother?

We've finally climbed out of the hole of all that processing, edge enhancement and sharpening of the bygone eras of home video and certain filmmakers are trying to plunge us back in again, with the help of cutting edge AI! (avisynth users have been getting these kind of upscaling results before the words "AI upscaled" had passed a Hollywood directors lips or a reddit posters fingers for that matter... it's almost as if its still the same old tools).

*I'd be interested to know if Cameron or Jackson had actually ever seen a good catalogue UHD displayed on a large high end tv or projector, before they came to the conclusion that heavy processing and upscaling was the way forward. Jackson seems to hate the look of film in general these days so it would probably have no impact...but I wonder about Jimbo.
Using AI is lazy, it just means they did not go frame by frame and fix it, they just batch apply the effect to all the movie.. then maybe spot check here and there.

I found this today for $2 at a used books/movies store. I’ve never seen this slipcover before. Anyone else? It has a Sam’s Club price sticker on it. Wonder if it was a store exclusive?

I actually don't come on here that often anymore because I got tired of every conversation being about the slipcover and whether it had it in the first place or that it was damaged in shipping. I feel like that represents about 95% of most threads that I look at, so I just don't come here much anymore.

But it has made me wonder if it would be worth opening another forum; maybe slipcover.com?

I find it interesting too, considering I’ve been buying movies online for 20 years and can’t recall any scratches or dents. Although I’m sure there was a small few it obviously wasn’t significant enough to remember.

Yeah, what's up with that? It struck me as odd from the very beginning. A lot of people post updates about their online order: whether it shipped, got delayed or cancelled, whether the payment is processed, or the bank called for confirmation. Like who cares? We only care if you have screenshots, and we'll probably tell you they don't matter when you post them.

Because lots of times companies have delays or screw up shipping (Zavvi/Arrow is a prime example) so it's logical people will discuss the shipping issues as it gets closer to release, or when things get delayed. Why is that a surprise that people who paid for their orders would be concerned when they aren't shipping as expected?

And some of it is obviously just excitement.

I guess you don't like money. Many slipcovers sell for actual cash on Ebay and even in here. And they increase what you can get for the discs if you sell them later.

Never understood the obsessive hate for slipcovers. It's another print of the artwork. Part of the cost of whatever disc you buy is the slipcover. That isn't free. Many companies even charge more for them, like Vinegar Syndrome. And many pay the few dollars more from them, too, to get one. Many can easily bring in $10 or more a piece later. Myself, I just like that sometimes they offer alternate poster art.

Copies of out-of-print sets on Ebay get much, much more just for having the slipcover. (See: Looney Tunes).

Scratches and dents is part of online shopping these days. Not just discs; everything.

I don't think it's the hate for slipcovers themselves, but the obsession over them.

Does it come with a slip? Well, did yours come with a slip? I need a slip.
