Yes, there are some who would happily give up discs and watch prints in their own home theaters and avoid all this malarkey.

But for those who can't, maybe they'd like as close as accurate to the original as possible, it takes no effort to include the original audio.

Film to video has always been a transition, this format offers the opportunity to provide the most accurate representation of film. As well as an opportunity to do other things...
A lot of people are forgetting that there will always be technical limitations during a film's production regardless of the budget - even today. Those of us who watch Blu-ray extras already know that Cameron was always a tech geek even back during The Abyss days; He was perhaps born too early as some have said. Cameron isn't the only Director going back and tweaking things long after the fact. 10, 20 years from now, when someone invents new technology, Cameron will probably go back and tweak Avatar. Cameron himself will likely be the one innovating and improving technology as he has already done with Avatar. Who wants to be the one to go up to him and call him out for doing what he does?

I’m starting to think that this release is an elaborate myth. It doesn’t exist.

A New Hope was supposed to have a digital intermediate in 1977

Like others have said, fine, but let their revised editions stand alongside a faithful representation of the original. They don't even have to be involved if they're busy, hand it off to someone else.

I don't care about revisions, it's when they're the only release that's the problem.

Yes, you have to contact them via the website as their email notifications don't work, they'll give you your tracking number. My card was charged on the 12th and my copy shipped the same day, and is now processed for delivery by Evri.

People have suggested there are problems with the disc on this release? Is that the case or not?

I don't mind directors tinkering with movies but they/ studios should always ensure the original version is available. I should be able to watch the original, unmolested 1977 Star Wars if I want to. If only for posterity sake. Everything ages, even the Special Editions are looking ropey now. What's to stop Disney going in for another redo of the Death Star trench? Where does it end if films are never really declared finished?

That’s not correct.

It’s not only Sony
UK releases with slips are shrinkwraped from Arrow Films/88 Films/Lionsgate/and a good few other UK labels releases.

But I don't think I've seen any in this thread, unless I missed them.

My Amazon pre-order from early February is now listed as shipped and should arrive tomorrow. It previously moved to March 22-25. True Lies showed up on release day.

It’ll end when they stop coming up with tools that make it easier - and more tempting - to adjust and “fix”. That’s like saying “this technology stuff is getting out of hand and there must be a reckoning!!” It just ain’t happenin’

If George was so unhappy with A New Hope he should have just remade it. I would have preferred that to him slowly destroying a classic film.

Always said, I'd love to see George's Final Cuts, but with a decent version of the theatricals alongside them.
