I got delivered my 4K Toho/JAPAN 1 disc version of GVK off Amazon Japan. The ASL parts of the movie have got English subs but obviously the movie lacks English subs for the rest of the dialogues.

I think the 4K Japan edit was the INTENDED encode made for Warner and Japan regions to fit a BD100 disc. In the end Warner released the movie in BD66 rather than BD100 probably due to lack of BD100 due to Covid. The UK 4k version is apparently a BD100 but still retains the BD66 video encode and extra extra languages.
Interesting, thanks for the information! I had forgotten that the first film was on a 66 GB disc from Warner and find it interesting that the Toho left the English subtitles in. I do think that The New Empire has more subtitled ASL than the first film, so perhaps Toho may opt for a "clean" master (with no English subtitles) this time, or perhaps not.
