These are all DIY panels. Me and my buddy went to Home Depot and Hobby lobby for all the supplies. The roxul material that is the actual panel came from ATS acoustics.
-Wood from Home Depot cost me around $30. -A package of roxul 24"x 48" (6) from ATS cost me $49 w/ $15 shipping. -Breathable cloth from Hobby Lobby cost about $30 (could of been less but we made a size mistake) -Dry Wall screws $5 -Staples $5 -Wall hangers (picture frame style w/ heavier duty nails) $3 -Wood Glue (Judd already had some) For a grand total of only about $135. That got me 4 full sized panels (24" x 48") and 4 half sized panels (24" x 24"). Overall its pretty damn easy work. Just screw the wood together. Then make corner braces and a middle brace then glue all edges together. Then you have your frame. We bought some standard cheapie white cloth to use as a backing and stapled that on. Since i was hanging mine on a wall we needed a "seat" for the roxul to sit on. So we bought some pine wood planks that were the perfect size. You place your breathable cloth flat on the ground, put the roxul in the middle then place the panel on top of it facing down. Then you just take all the extra fabric fold it over, pull tight and staple on the backside for a nice clean look. Then take the picture hangers and nail them into the very top. I did alot of measuring, nailed in some dry wall anchors, and mounted. Definately worth the time because i ended saving a TON of money than if i were to buy it from GIK or ATS directly already built. P.S.- so far the panels have really balanced out the sound. Dialogue has really been cleaned up in my room, which was a big complaint of mine prior to the panels. I'm enjoying this investment thus far. Thanks for the compliments guys ![]() |

Nice job Bigred! I've seen other DIY panels that looked pretty damn shoddy ... but these are sleek and go well with the decor.
Might have to do this myself when i get a place of my own... Are you going to do any other walls in your living room? |

I have them in other places throughout the room as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() There a few other places that i need, but it would be a little difficult as the panel would have to be a custom size to fit in these areas. |

Hey Guys,
The PB 12 Plus is one heavy beast I'll tell you that. It does look rather imposing and takes up a lot of space. Took a lot of effort to get it into place at 127 lbs. I bought the version with the piano gloss finish to match the NHTs. So I hooked it up with one of the Blue Jeans interconnects and one of the new Miova power cables (incredible build - actually shames the Cardas Cross power cable I've got). The Yamaha always turns the subwoofer gain much more lower than I prefer. After recalibrating the room, I let her rip. I had four subs running before (with all sorts of room mode/phase/firing/standing wave problems) and this thing pumps out the same spl and 'ooomph' as them, but with a hell of a lot more grace and detail. I still haven't got it right. I like the 16hz tuning option for right now. Getting bass 'right' is the hardest quest I've ever been on for HT. I'll have to keep you guys posted after I can mess with it some more (wife and kids put a damper on the spl levels). |

So I emailed the owner of SVS and the head tech guy, Ron Stimpson and Ed mullen about my concerns about the cabinet build and here are their responses:
Thanks for your purchase. Trust me, these subs are 125 pound tanks, built stouter than just about anything on the market, period. Sound and Vision Magazine said this sub “…delivered perhaps the most detailed, subtle performance of all these subs.” Full stop. I’m confident that once fully optimized this sub can and will take your breath away. PS Anyone with subs this good I can’t help but recommend the AS-EQ1 at some point along your bass upgrade path. Even with everything set right some rooms create devilishly difficult sonic challenges. The AS-EQ1 fixes those problems better than any box on the plane today. And price is going up soon since we can’t keep up with demand, just a word up. Not sure how Sonic Boom Prices are ATM but they too are sure to go up soon. Ron Stimpson Co-Founder, SVS Director, Product and Marketing rons@svsound.com And from Ed: The cabinet is constructed with 1” MDF panels (1.5” on the woofer baffle), and is braced and insulated. The system tuning frequency is ~ 20 Hz with all ports open. It sounds hollow because the ports are open and the box is indeed hollow inside – the large amount of internal volume (far larger than any loudspeaker) is the key to efficient reproduction of deep frequencies. Contrary to popular misconception, a subwoofer box does not need to pass the “knuckle rap” test in order to be considered acoustically inert from a bass reproduction standpoint. The resonant frequency of any given panel/section on the box simply needs to be well above the intended pass band of the subwoofer, and that is indeed the case with the PB12-Plus. I tried to convince the wife to go (showed her the shopping and tourist attractions), but she said wouldn't you just rather have the money we would spend on travel, hotel, food and use it for movies and electronics.
![]() How can you argue that?!?!?!? |
