Can't believe I'm saying this, but... we're relying on you, Warner Bros.

The aspect ratio isn't why I hate the Blu-Ray version. I hate the Blu-Ray because a proper remastering job wasn't done, the colors are drab and and the picture is very dark in areas when compared to the original DVD. (Raphael fighting the Foot Clan on the rooftop is a good comparison point of reference to use for this.) The Blu-Ray would be better for most people though if I'm being honest, as it's in HD obviously and it has more detail. My only issue with the DVD is that it's excessively grainy, but it's my go to version.

Go for broke, if Shout! or Arrow are able to get the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles cut in full screen, at least that's how we'll get 2 different ARs.

Incidentally, I'm hoping for an announcement for tomorrow!

I have a VHS rip of the UK cut. It would be very cool to see a better quality print of that version, I doubt they would even go through that much effort though.

I don’t really know why anyone would want the inferior UK cut apart from nostalgic reasons?

Alternate footage and moments that aren't in the US cut would be why.

Is it right that any video works which depict smoking now have an automatic 15 rating applied to them?

Reason I ask is there is a brief scene of a teen smoking a massive cigar in the film.

Is the JPN BD the smeary master on the UK BD or is it the shared Warner master with FS and GH logos pasted up front? As a matter of fact, is it in proper 23.97 or possibly some field blended 1080i mess since it has PAL sourced audio?

Is the BBFC always going through and re-rating things? With the MPAA a rating stands forever unless it’s appealed, and there are all kinds of movies with MPAA ratings that are bizarre by today’s standards, especially films from the pre-PG-13 era. The G-rated Planet of the Apes, with its mild profanity and rear male nudity, and the PG-rated The Andromeda Strain, with its topless female corpse come to mind. But the MPAA will only re-rate films if the studio re-submits a movie that got an X rating in the 70s in hopes of getting an R rating or whatever. And even that is an antiquated concept because that was mainly done because stores like Walmart wouldn’t stock a movie with an X-rating and now I don’t think anyone cares.

Haven't seen the Mediumrare BD, but JPN BD has some temporal smeariness compared to Warner BD. FS and GH logos present. 23.976 fps without blending.

Sounds like the same shared Warner transfer as the AU/DE BDs. I'll up some caps of the UK BD later, its truly a sight to behold!

Alrighty, I got some things up for the UK BD and I discovered it's actually 23.97 not 1080i like I originally though upon first viewing years ago (it was actually the UK iTunes stream that was 25fps but same smeary master). FS logo only (which they smeared to high oblivion), no GH or New Line not even at the end. Audiowise it has lossy DD 2.0 and 5.1 tracks, and upon quick listen the 2.0 track sounded much meatier while the 5.1 has some sort of phasing issue like it was converted from PAL or something IDK. I can't get a BDInfo sheet on it right now, but the file size for the feature is 15.8gbs and bitrate is in the low 10-20s.

Screenies speak for themselves:

I thought the Warner Blu-Ray looked bad, this is twenty times worse.

No, you can have "historic smoking" at the lower categories, though they may mention it in the consumer advice. We see that the smokers here are "bad kids" so it's not meant to be glamourised, can't see it being a category defining issue. However, in that UK version clip posted above I did hear a Turtle say "what a spaz!" and that's an auto '12' now.

Wasn't the original film briefly re-released in UK cinemas after the BBFC waived the cuts? Feel like I vaguely remember seeing ads on TV.

And yeah, the UK BD was utter shite. Sold mine and later picked up the US release.

Man, that UK fight cut is awful, and not just because I grew up with the US version. They completely cut Mike's nunchuks duel, one of the best parts in the movie. The rest of the fight seemed so disjointed and messy. So many of those extra, random shots just didn't need to be there, and didn't look good. The US cut is so much tighter and easier to follow.
