I always purchase the standard release if available, but that steelbook makes me want to take a walk on the wild-side.

Searching frantically for a pre-order...

Day 1. Although I do remember folks complaining when the BD came out due to DNR issues and whatnot. I expect complaints on this one, as well.

Had a bit of a rough night sleeping last night just to come by and check on the news here. I'm not sure if I'm still dreaming or not. What a welcome way to start the day. With Dolby Vision & a pretty decent looking steel to boot! Today it seems as Disney is everyone's Huckleberry. Don't sleep on this release, kids. You're a daisy if you do!

But people keep on believing on "Trust Me, Bro! News"

I read somewhere, several years ago, an interview with Russel, where he says that he didn't get credit on purpose - I think it was for the benefit of Cosmatos, or some other guild rules. He also mentions that he has (or had, at the time of the interview) loads of material left from the movie, scenes that were cut, notes, etc.
Knowing Disney, I doubt very much we'll get anything remotely close to a true "director's cut." Let's enjoy the fact that we're getting it on 4K at all...

Can anyone give a quick rundown on if the director's cut is preferred? I totally forgot, but I remember it not being too much of a huge deal.

Regardless, this is an easy buy. I swear this movie gets better with time and gains more fans.

I too have heard all kinds of things. It would be pretty sweet if they got Kurt and others back to do a cut just for the fun of it. But the theatrical IDK does it really need much? I definitely would be in for a longer cut though.

In parts. It has odd moments. There was also discussion back then about the transfer being too dim.

I'm in the minority with this one I guess. I don't dislike it, but I find it looks so incredibly digital and airbrushed that it's a little off-putting everytime I look at it. I do like the composition, I just wish Russell and others didn't look like video game characters. With that said, and considering the kind of Steelbooks we've been getting, this is a damn masterpiece.

Like I said he had a lot of input on the film, like Eastwood/Stallone/Cruise/Costner; all those actors have a lot of power on their set, however Russell worked really hard on the script structuring and the wrangling of the scheduling with the actors (there were a ton of name actors on this) due to the original director (Kevin Jarre) was fired because he could not manage a production of this size (which was also competing with the shooting of Wyatt Earp to be brought first to theatres.). Cosmatos had the tendency to rescue film shoots that were in trouble and getting them completed on budget and on time. (which they don't tell you about)

The BD is wildly uneven. One scene looks like it came straight from the Paramount playbook with heavy DNR and sharpening, another scene will look beautifully textured and organic. Another will just look sharpened.

But given the time between the two transfers I doubt that any of this will apply to the UHD, i.e. the same people won't have worked on them, so I can't wait for this!

Cosmatos was not hired to rescue the film, though, he was hired because Stallone recommended him to Russell as a director he could essentially boss around without needing to direct himself. Which is funny because some of the actors on this movie said Cosmatos was a total prick to those he thought he could boss around, but for guys like Russell he’d bend to his every whim lol.

That interview has been kicking around since 2006.

If there's still anyone left who hasn't read it, here's a link: https://truewestmagazine.com/article...ern-godfather/
