Is he right give me some ammo to use against him my blu ray friends.
Ok the technical answer to this is simple. Yes, if it's a 1:1 image copy from an original source, meaning from an actual physical original BD disc of the movie, then yes, it will have the exact same quality and all the bells and whistles as the retail you buy from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc. there are some technical obstacles you have to overcome to create a full image and save it on a hard drive and i will not get into it as it's taboo in this forum. Yes it sucks, yes it's possible, yes it's out there for the taking. And you would have to buy dual layer discs to burn anything over 25 gigs for 1:1 obviously, which cost just about the same per disc as it would to buy the retail, more if the retail is on sale, so right now it's not worth it at all. One day, maybe, when the prices on BDs come down like it did for blank DVD media. There are also the re-encoded rips that do diminish the video quality and you loose some/most of the sound tracks available with the retail copies. Usually the lossless tracks since they are the biggest. That is reason alone for me not want to download BD rips.
