Well, what a surprise I had tonight. I popped in Disc 1 of Planet Earth into my Playstation 3. It showed the loading icon at the top right of the screen...and idled for a little while. Then the icon disappeared. So...I tried disc two, popped it in and it worked just fine. So, I went ahead and analyzed the two discs to see what I could find. The two pictures below illustrate the differences between the two discs(the one on the right is Disc 1, the nonfunctional disc).

I've had Planet Earth since the pre-orders were available on Amazon.com after the official announcement...so they've been in my collection for a bit. It almost looks like a burn...or general discoloration. I remember reading somewhere on the internet about a bacteria that supposedly fed on Blu Ray discs? Any thoughts?
