New Receiver - worth it?

G'day all,

I've searched and can't find much.

Basically i've just bought myself a 50inch full hd plasma (samsung) and a samsung blu ray player.

These were bought to replace my previous blu ray player and 42 inch plasma.

Only thing i've got left to replace are my speakers and receiver. These were bought a couple years ago as a Yamaha Home Theatre package (5.1 w/ receiver).

I cannot afford to purchase speakers at the moment and would like to experience lossless audio so was wondering if it's a wise move to first purchase the receiver (onkyo 606) and keep the speakers as they are until i get some more money.
