Watched: Last Year at Marienbad.

Pretty much impossible to to give a rating right away. Definitely one of the top 100 films of all time, though.

Similar thread in one of the film forums. It is a good way to track what you watch and helps keep a record:

So far:

# Date Title Year Director
1 1-Jan Sherlock Holmes 2009 Guy Ritchie
2 2-Jan Kicking & Screaming 2005 Jesse Dylan
3 2-Jan Boogie Nights** 1997 Paul Thomas Anderson
4 3-Jan Traitor 2008 Jeffrey Nachmanoff
5 3-Jan Appaloosa 2008 Ed Harris
6 4-Jan Mister Lonely 2007 Harmony Korine
7 5-Jan Notes on a Scandal 2006 Richard Eyre
8 7-Jan The New World 2005 Terrence Malick

I liked the New World and it looks great on Blu-ray. I find this kind of historical film much more interesting then Braveheart or the Patriot where it focuses on somebody with a larger then life personality. All these people seem much more realistic to maybe the real life characters though I am sure it takes some liberties over the actual events.

Well, a little bit. The story of John Smith, Rolfe, and Pochanontas has become so common, that virtually all that is left is myths and fantastical stories. The film, however, used things such as Smith's diary and journals to piece together the actual events. It also touches on something that is never shown in films on the subject: Pocahontas arriving in England. Notice that not once is Pocahontas' name mentioned (although there is one scene where it is about to, and is deliberately cut off). This was a conscious decision by Malick to do away with the myths surrounding the real life characters.

One of the best looking blus.

TF&TF: Tokyo Drift

Movie: 3/5 - Mindless entertainment with a "so so" story, nothing bad though.
PQ: 5/5 - The movie looks gorgeous throughout, i especially love the vibrance of all the colors in Tokyo.
AQ: 5/5 - Big phat thumpin' beats, fast cars and crisp dialogue, even when the volume isn't turned up.

Overall, a great watch.

Avatar, Didn't like it 3 out of 5.
It only gets that because at least it looked good.

Rented and watched the following on DVD today:

"G-Force." Kept hearing that it sucked, but I wanted to see it anyway, having enjoyed the PS3 game. The movie is not as bad as I expected; not particuarly funny or anything, but the action and special effects looked slick and the story is moderately engaging. It's a short one; I almost wish there was more to it. I'd say it's pretty well-made and would satisfy its target audience (which would probably be kids), but it's also unmemorable. 3/5

"Cloudy With a Chance Of Meatballs." I expected it to be corny or something, but I was surprised as to how original, funny, and imaginative it turned out to be. It was hardly dull and the characters were swell. It's a preposterous story, but as cartoon-like as the movie is, I enjoyed it anyway, and I'll probably buy a copy later. 4/5

Watched Braveheart on blu for the first time. I've seen the film at least a dozen times, and it has never gotten old to me. One of the greatest epics of all-time, without a doubt.

Film: 5/5

PQ: 4.5/5

AQ: 4.5/5

North by Northwest

Film: 4/5

PQ: 5/5 (i assume it can't look any better)

AQ: 4/5

great film. i will get eaten alive for saying this, but i wasn't very impressed with Grant's performance. the very first scene, he's walking with his secretary, and right off the bat, he was rattling off his lines very unnaturally. overall, he did good, but perhaps i just had such huge expectations. am i the only one who feels this way? i'm assuming so and am ducking for cover.

great film overall though. loved the usual hitchcock suspense! you never knew what was going to happen next. great direction as always, the score was chilling, and overall just a great suspense thriller.

Just watched The Prestige for the fourth time, but first on blu.

Film: 4/5 (a very good film about obsession, but still held in too high of a regard, imo)

PQ: 4.5

AQ: 4.5

yeah i see your point about it being a tad overrated. i just cant get that image out of my mind of jackman
[Show spoiler] allowing himself to be killed over and over in the water tank. before the trick he's like "hell yeah, let's do it: the old me dies, the new me lives." after teh trick, the old me has a change of heart: let me the hell out of here!! seems like an endless metaphor oasis for people who kill themselves (destroy their true nature/what they want to do regardless of what others are doing around them) each time they are overcome with jealousy/anger by pursuing some egoic path

Baghead. From the Duplass Brothers.
2/5, kinda predictable and very low budget, not on blu.
