Default Yamaha 765 better than 663?

I'm helping a buddy put together a home theater. A couple of weeks ago Electronics Expo was selling the Yamaha 663 for around $330. Seemed like a pretty good deal so I convinced him to buy it. Well, two weeks later it still hadn't arrived, so we called EE. They said they're out of the 663 but would send a 765 instead, at no additional cost. Seems like a no-brainer to go with a "higher" model of a newer receiver, but in casual reading I get the impression people prefer the 663 to the 665.

So, all things considered, is $330 (+$40 shipping) a fair price on a Yamaha RX-V765? Or did they bait and switch him? The lowest price I've seen on this is Newegg for $400. Amazon still has it at its MSRP of $600. It seems like a fair exchange, but you never know with those slick New Jersey folks.

He bought a Blu-ray player and my old Polk RM7650 5.1 speaker set. He plays a lot of Wii with his 4 year old daughter and watches sports. That's about all he'll be using it for. Can he run his Wii through this thing via component video cables? If so, will it upconvert?
