The standard movie poster size is either 40 or 41 x 27 inches. I found that a 42" TV is roughly the same size (depending on the bevel around the edge). Wouldn't it be cool to hook this TV up to a computer and rotate the image 90 deg so you have a vertical desktop that can display anything. I have a small mac mini that has a DVI > HDMI cable already hooked up to my system and have verified that rotating the desktop works great.

It would take a little programming, which I'm not really familiar with on a mac, but I should be able to check what movie the home theater PC is currently playing and display the movie poster that goes with it. Even if I can't get that working right away, I'm certain I can get it cycling through a folder filled with movie poster images.

I'll probably add a little mini keyboard and mouse that sit on top of the candy counter so we can pull up other movie related pages. I think a page like IMDB's Top 250 would be a nice conversation piece and will look really cool on it.

I can't afford something too expensive but I'd probably spring for 1080p to make sure the image is as clear as possible. Do you think they will let me hook up the mac mini at Walmart before buying?

My last thought is building a wood frame around it so the edge of the TV is hidden and the whole thing looks professional. I was originally thinking of finding a wall mount where you can hold the TV by the sides and rotate it horizontally or vertically. This would be nice for watching more than one football game but I doubt they make a mount like that and I'd have to make something custom which would probably fail LOL. I'm guessing the wood frame idea wouldn't work very well either if I did that.

So that's the idea. If you look in my gallery, I'm thinking of placing it on the same wall as the components, basically right where the right hand eyeball light shines on the wall (you can kind of see from the panoramic).

That is one awesome idea!! I have seen flat panels framed with wood and they look fantastic. I really like the idea of being able to rotate it because whenever you feel like it, you can have trailers going, instead of just the posters. Displaying the vertical posters can be as simple as a Power point presentation where you customize the fade-in and fade-out on the posters you want to show - definitley doable!
