The latent homosexuality was a problem for me too. At least that was interspersed with battle scenes--and my only criticism of those was watching Legolas surf down the stairs or down an Olephant's trunk. Some of Jackson's decisions were alarming.

Can't wait to see what Del Toro does with Hobbits.

I like that a lot of fanboys are so uncomfortable with two males having any type of relationship that isn't about killing shit or talking about tits.

I don't think anybody is that stupid, it's an incredibly futile endeavour to try to affect sales of such high profile releases, we saw that with the release of Gladiator.

I think you've misunderstood the majority of these posters, I don't think I've encountered anybody here saying "do not buy this set!"

I think most people are happy that Warner has continued to stagger the TC and EE releases. It makes it easier for consumers to afford both and add each one to their collection. And isn't that ideal? Sales would be just as high if these were the EEs -- it's 'LotR' after all -- and criticism would be just as strong and just as divisive if the EEs had the same issues. I'm sure a few people out there are miffed these aren't the EEs, and perhaps those few people are finding faults because of that. But I love the TCs (and the EEs actually), as do many others in this thread. Being critical of an aspect of a release does not denote an orchestrated effort to thwart that release. I'm ecstatic to have 'LotR' in high definition, regardless of the cuts or the relatively limited issues.

I think if the folks you were poking at were in here, they'd be vehemently arguing with you. That's par for the course in message boards. I'm certainly glad you're posting, don't get me wrong, but you've shown that you have much more to offer this thread than flames

Ok explain this like a mentioned before this thread has over 9,000 replies, every time some one says something positive about the film some else searched the internet encyclopedia to find some thread make by some idiot to prove them wrong. Take this for another example, This guy is dead wrong and look how much support he's had, over 60 people voted on this just to bring it to the top to defer people from buying it, everyone knows that people look at these rating before they buy a movie. So this is their effort to bring the sales down. Just as the same attempt on amazon.

This doesn't ring a bell. with 66 votes he shouldn't have any bars at all, but the naysayers are seriously supporting him, probably making extra accounts to support him. This is childish. Really makes me think how many dudes on this site are still virgins.

Oh, I know there are some. There are some people out there who believe 2012 will be the year we take our last breath. I just don't think a large gathering of either group is haunting this thread, that's all. Or at least not enough of them to warrant so much attention

No way. Sales of the EEs never rose to the level of the less expensive versions. Most consumers are price-conscious, not LOTR-obsessive conscious. Even the set that's out now is cost-prohibitive to many prospective buyers. An EE Blu-ray set would be out of the price range of the average consumer.

I agree with you there, Ken, and as I said previously...the EEs had their time and place in my collection when I was more appreciative of these films. They have since lost some of their appeal for me and it will be difficult to justify the time it takes to watch them. Having the EE versions adds significantly more time for not significantly more payoff. There are only 24 hours in a day and lots of great movies to spin on Blu-ray.

I was trying to suggest that if the EEs were the same price, and the only Blu-ray version on the market, I think sales would be just as high. Sorry, I didn't word it very clearly.

I'm sure the EE set will be more expensive though, so you've definitely got me there

It will be interesting to see how Warner prices and packages the EE set. Note that the EE DVD set along with the individual EE DVDs went out of print while the theatrical versions stayed in print--obviously because the more affordable versions sell better. I suspect BD versions will follow suit.

EE set will probably be $100+, at first. I know they're popular with some fans but that price will effect sales and they probably won't do well till the set drops to $80-.
