Default Starting a BD collection question

hey there i don't have a Blu Ray player yet but planning on buying a PS3 when im able to get one and would like to start a Blu Ray collection even though i do not have an HD setup currently. Some impressve collections so far however im a little woried im not so eager to start shelling out lots of money on these newly released first wave of movies. i have a lot of DVD's and im not sure weather or not i plan on replacing my entire collection just yet. i don't know if it's just because these are the first Blu Ray movies to be released but what is up with the lack of bonus material and extras? i mean what gives? the storage on these discs are monsterious, are they just testing the water to see what kind of market there is? i've already double dipped plenty on DVD's i really don't want to repeat that over with Blu Ray not only replacing the DVD's with Blu Ray but replacing the Blu Ray movies with a better version of Blu Ray movie. HD is very impressive and picture quality and audio are the most important part in the presentation of the movie however i don't have an HD setup so i don't know if it will even make any difference right now. Has anyone used Blu Ray on a standard tv or setup?
