Very nice packaging for "The Leopard." So, it seems safe to say that most 2-disc sets for one singular film will be in a similar style package. Cool.

Can't wait for the review, pro-b. Since Criterion's site only confirms the Italian release as having an "uncompressed monaural soundtrack," can you confirm whether or not that the English-language version does as well?

It is the same boxset, but since these rumors has sources inside Criterion for them, I find this true. Since Sony didn't get this out last year is another reason why I think this is true, letting Criterion release them gives this a market instead of Sony shelling out for a gamble that the eveyday consumer will buy this.

Oh well, I wasn't planning on getting it any time soon anyway. Even more expensive than usual + still not using the latest restoration = no buy. I'll save my money for the P&P films instead.

This isn't that cheap crap in the first wave of Criterion blus. This is like the digipaks of their dvds and I LOVE IT. I hope Breathless is the same.

Are you sure. Those pics of the inner case look just as cheap as digipaks to me...

I don't care what the built quality is like. It sucks because it stands out. Now I'm going to have 42 Criterion Blu-Rays in the normal casing and 2 in digipaks sticking out like sore thumbs. It's just stupid. Pick a damn case type and stick with it.

Ya, I'm not sure about the Leopard now that I see how bad the "case" looks.

Is there some outcray in favor of digipacks I'm not aware of. WTF is wrong with the solid clear cases?!? I've heard zero complaints about the clear cases and many about the cardboard cases.

So people are really not going to buy this due to the case? And they bash me because I am a critic of some directors?

Criterion has done digipaks way way way before they started on blu-rays. This is going to be in a CHE-like case so you won't even know it's a digipak on the shelf.

The thing is they can't put 2 discs in one small blu case. There not going to put a extras disc in a case by itself.

Hahaha. You guys get so upset over the most insignificant, mundane aspects of life. I can't help but laugh.

Seriously, though. Criterion had their clear, plastic blu-ray cases custom-made for their releases. It's not financially sound for them to go having custom-made plastic cases for 2-disc and 3-disc releases. The other multi-disc sets of "Che" and "Monterey Pop" & "Jimi/Shake!" both consisted of individual films that were released separately at one point. And hence why I'm sure each disc warranted a separate plastic case. However, with "The Leopard" both discs are part of one singular film... and as the case with the "By Brahkage" set, all three discs are commonly linked. It makes sense to me, but I suppose not to the OCD crowd out there. This packaging is no way inferior to the plastic cases. You guys must not have ever bought any of Criterion's standard DVDs to realized there's no uniformity in their packaging. And who gives two shits about uniformity!!!

I will now begin to play the world's smallest violin for the cardboard case haters.

I never said I wasn't going to buy it, just that I was unhappy about the choice of packaging. And getting upset over the case is no less silly than writing a paragraph trying to lambaste somebody for their opinion on a case. I don't like it. It's no big deal, dudes.

Default Spartacus???

Speaking of Criterion Collection, does anyone know if "Spartacus" is going to be released on Blu-ray?

For what is it, a $50 MSPR? Of course they can put discs in individual cases for that price.

***EDIT*** LOL. Someone gave me negative rep just for that? Get a life dude. That's just pathetic.

CG,
Can you imagine the outcry from all of these "Seven Samurai"-loving "Kurosawa fans" when they see that the blu-ray for that film is going to be packaged the same way since it's sure to be a 2-disc set?

Not by Criteron. Universal has already released it on blu-ray, though.

So you didn't buy the Brakhage set either, nor any Criterion dvd like Seven Samurai, Breathless, Pandora's Box, and Two-Lane Blacktop?

Well, I guess all of you guys can pool your money together and buy up a bunch of replacement cases for $5 each for the first two and $2.50 for each one thereafter and start creating your own custom covers. That seems like a simple enough solution, right?
