yeah, there's a few of us that have seen it i think.
we didn't like it that much. it's confusing and makes you think and discuss it with people. none of us like doing that so we all give the film 1/5's (or 1/4 for jhiggy and his rating system). i'd stay away if i were you

Oh it sounds so bad, I might have to see if it's that bad, it sounds like it's on the same calibre of Transformers 2 confusingness the way you portray it!

Zodiac (Director's Cut)

boy oh boy do i love this film.
right now it sits as my third favorite film "of all time" and after watching it today (well, listening to Fincher's commentary on it) i remember why i love the film so much.

it moves slow (as do most of Fincher's films), but builds up many interesting characters, an intriguing, true serial killer story of the Zodiac that took place in California in the 70's, and is built like a real life puzzle that you, the audience must put together. some will hate that the ending doesn't give you any closure, but hey, that's how the REAL STORY ends. so what are you gonna do? make it up?

the film feels and looks like the 1970's as Fincher and his crew have spared no expense in making you believe what era you're in. what i love most though is how the film feels like a documentary. although being about a serial killer, there is very little in the way of violence or gruesome acts, although, there are a few and when they come, they are full of tension, fear, honesty and realism. the scene
[Show spoiler]at Lake Berryessa is particularly gut wrenching
and i find that scene harder to watch than any horror movie in many years. not because of blood or gore (which there is barely any blood, no gore) but because of the realism. and also the
[Show spoiler]scene where Graysmith (Gyllenhaal) is in the basement with the old man who worked at the movie theater was especially disturbing
because of the acting, lighting, score and directing. it's amazing how a film that has very few "scary" moments excels where horror films themselves fail time and time again.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and John Carroll Lynch all do masterful jobs here in their respective roles, and RDJ deserved an Oscar for his role here. he was fantastic!

another great thing i realized after viewing the film about 10 times was how the story shifts between main characters. and Fincher does it flawlessly. first it starts off with the police and the crimes, and then it shifts to Robert Graysmith's (Gyllenhaal) obsession with the Zodiac.

i've seen the film about 35 times since it was released a few years ago, and it always gets me. i'm sucked in to the believable world that Fincher has created and i truly believe (sadly) that Zodiac will forever be an underrated classic that people seem to always forget about.

Zodiac is MY Oscar winner for Best Picture of 2007.
and it wasn't even nominated by the folks in charge...

5/5

Agree with it being a worthy oscar nominee, maybe even a winner. But noway was it Fincher's best work. But the acting was brilliant there (Apart from Gyllenhaal, but that maybe down to me not liking it).Really gave me goosebumps a couple of times.Loved the performance of he who played Arthur Leigh Allen.

For me 4/5.

Just saw 'Looking for Eric',and thought it was by-the-numbers from Loach.Nothing special, but liked the performance of Cantona.3/5.

oh, i don't think it was Fincher's best work. for me, that honor goes to Fight Club (being it's my favorite movie and all ) but i think it's his second best. i have to revisit TCCOBB and Panic Room to make a comprehensive list, but for now, that's where it stands.

I have been profiled as being somewhat of a Fincher fan,so here is my rating of his movies:

1.Se7en.
2.Fight club
3.The game.
4.Tie between Zodiac and Alien3.Don't know why I find Alien3 such a good movie, but it gave me a supreme cinema experience when it came out.
5.Benjamin Button.
6.Panic room.

Have I remembered all his movies?Anyway his major work are there.

one suggestion: don't buy it used. I just did and now have second thoughts. the used ad said: "watched only once - I think." WTF?

Yeah, you will probably like it. Its one of those movies that spoon feeds you all the answers and wraps everything up with a neat little bow at the end.

Best movie of the 2000s!

Still can't believe the academy didn't nominate it for anything the year it came out.....makes me so mad. Love this movie. Great review

And personally it is my favorite David Fincher movie. Fight Club is a close second though

Errr, what does that mean, wraps everything up with a neat bow? Do you mind spoon feeding the answer to me, use small words please.

Next greatest rental: “Far Cry.” Another masterpiece by the one and only Uwe Boll. Some day, he just might make something that rivals "10000 BC" for the status as the all-time reigning classic...

At first glance of this film, I feared that I was in for another “Alone in the Dark” kind of thing.

As the film went on, it generally got better. It entertains, with some decent action. But I was most surprised by the humor that was sprinkled all over the movie. Gone is the (faux) uber-violent nihilism and darkness that Boll usually strives for; this film is much more upbeat and lighthearted, and is effectively campy. There are many amusing lines and situations throughout.

But the key word is “amusing,” because there was never anything that really made me laugh out loud, much less any action scene that really grabbed me, or any part of the story or characters that really got me going. The story is rather average and is nothing to really praise.

The plus side is that the film seems decently made. A few stupid moments perhaps, but the cameramanship is solid, acting seems okay (I figure all the bad lines and laughable accents are intentional…but then again, who knows? ), and the production value seems adequate.

Couldn't tell you how it compares to the original video game, since I never played it.

3/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 2.5/5, film: 3/5)

Not reccomended to all the real film buffs out there.

Do I dare give into buying the German steelbook BD?!!
