Default Are people who still BUY DVDs wasting their money?

I would assume that most people know about Blu-ray/HD DVD. They may not be interested in the two formats or may not be willing to buy into them at this point, but people are still aware of their existence and the fact that one of them will eventually replace DVD as the main format.

The day I heard about Blu-ray/HD DVD coming out I decided i was not going to buy any more DVDs. IMO it was not worth the price tag for something that would soon be replaced. I knew I would buy one of those formats sooner or later and I basically just rented movies until I bought my PS3.

I was at Best Buy, Circuit City, and Walmart (never going to Walmart again, I felt so dirty after) and I noticed that DVDs are still selling like crazy. People walking around looking at DVDs would just skip through the 5 rows of Blu as if they contained VHS or something. No one even paused to look at this new rising format (no one looked at HD DVD either).

Are people just in denial about Blu-ray/HD DVD? Do they think all this is going away? I mean you would think they learned their lesson after rebuying their VHSs on DVD, which face it, by now most people have re-bought them.

I understand why people would not jump into one format or the other at this point, but I dont understand why people would keep building a collection that would soon be obsolete. IMO opinion, right now all anyone should do is rent DVDs or buy Blu-rays. Buying DVDs is just a waste of money IMO. What do you think?
